It does look dead. How long has it been like that? Is the base of it still firm or soft?

Hello, its been like that for over 6 months or more. the base of it is firm

6 months with no show of growth suggests it's dead. The small growth shoot on the left definitely looks dead. What's the history of it?

I accidentally let it get burnt leaves from direct sun light, and i also think i either over watered it or it needed better soil drainage because it held water in the soil a long time.

its slowly died off and i have removed all the dead bits untill it is what it is now. i removed a whole lot of dead roots aswell.

Its held that one green stem for a long time so i was wondering if i put it into a smaller pot of soil could i slowly revive it or is it to far gone?

Always worth giving it a try. At this stage you've got nothing to lose. They are a clumping palm so produce more trunks from the base. If there is a glimmer of life left down there it might come back. But replacements are usually easy to find and pretty cheap.
