Wall Requirements and durability

Two questions:

  1. How do you do you need to prepare the walls, does the surface need to be perfectly smooth or could I put it over the orange peel texture currently on the walls?
  2. How is the durability? I would like to use it for a bathroom wall, so the part closest to the sink would serve as a backsplash.

Thanks

    Hello,

Our products work best on flat surfaces. If you can take a photo of the orange peel consistency, I can get a better idea if it will work or not on that type of wall. We have had success on some types of orange peel. The adhesive needs to spread out and catch onto the wall to properly adhere and will some consistencies, there is not enough surface area for it to adhere tightly to.

How I should prepare my wall before installing your Wall Decal, Wall Sticker or Wallpaper?

If your wall or surface is painted, dry and ready, there are just a few more steps you can take to make for an optimal installation experience. First, take a warm damp (just water is fine) lint free cloth and clean your wall if your paint is old. DO NOT use cleaners with alcohol to clean the walls. This will remove any dust. Next wait for it to dry again, maybe an hour or so. In the meantime put your hand on the wall. Is the wall room temperature or is it cold? Wall decals and Wall Stickers do not like cold walls. Wallpaper will be okay, but if you are installing wall decals or stickers, turn up the heat and wait until the walls are not cold to the touch. Finally, wash and dry your hands. Clean and dry hands are the most important tools you need!

In regards to bathrooms and back splashes....here is our "canned answer" directly from our FAQ:

Can I use your products in my Bathroom?

Our wall decals and wallpaper can be used in a bathroom but NOT in areas where there will be constant direct water contact (ie. inside the shower/tub) unless you plan to seal it with a clear coat. While humid conditions are okay, it’s always a good idea to keep a room well ventilated by opening up a window or turning on the fan.

Can I use your products as a Kitchen Backsplash?

Yes!, As of January 7, 2019, ALL of our wallpaper and wall murals can be used as a backsplash and can be wiped down easily using a non abrasive, mild cleaner and soft cloth.

I hope this helps, if you need anything else, you can get us through here or directly at support@simpleshapes.com
