what is the black material on the roof?
builing a porch on top of a large room too . What are tips to make sure its watertight and no leaks?

@step15 this is rubber roofing membrane... where is your house located? climate?
make sure your ceiling joists are strong enough to support the porch

My house is in upstate NY.
What is the name of the membrane , and how thick is it? We went with EPDM but still have minor leaks in the floor below. It may not be related to the membrane but rather lack of a gutter. Do you have a gutter system on this? my railing will come down all the way to the floor of the porch. Anything to help me avoid leaks or trouble waterproofing?

If I could have done it for you, you wouldn't have any leaks!
We do have some floor drains that remove all the water that comes on the deck, since the walls are higher than the floor. We used insulated and tapered foam under the first rubber layer and then a second layer on top.

is it recommended to put one layer ontop of the other ? what adhesive did you use for that ?
