Actually on the news here, they did show the central valley in drought conditions just this week. It is on the radar. If we don't get more rain over the next year, I anticipate stronger restrictions on watering. Thank goodness I am on drip!

Fires have been on my mind for months now since I learned that this will be a drier and warmer than usual year. I think our last blessedly cool and wet winter was a fluke and we may be looking at more drought years. I so hope that I'm wrong.

Yes, wildfires must of course be the most important concern.

You folks have my sympathies. Here too we have been having an atypically dry winter with no end in sight. Ground water levels are good from rain during the fall, but the drainages are drying up. It has also been warm: to sum up, there has been no winter this winter, and I don't think we'll have one in the little time left for it. I saw almonds in bloom yesterday. I'm hoping now for a wet spring like we had last year. Summer doesn't bear thinking about.

I'm here in Southern Oregon and likewise, I'm noticing the distinct lack of rain and feeling nervous about what may lie ahead!

Large parts of Sweden did not get a meteorological winter this year. I know we didn't in my part. No snow, no freezes, no ice on lakes. My husband is sorry that he won't be able to skate this year. We've had some rain, enough for small water deposits (for people with their own wells). Not enough for the large ones though so we expect hose pipe bans in summer. Our roses are confused as are we, it's unprecedented to have them still green and with new shoots in February. We fear a backlash in March but as the ground isn't frozen it may not be so bad.

Wow, no winter in SWEDEN! That's amazing...and terrifying.
