I would put the bench in the entry for a place to take off shoes or put down what you bring in. Center the TV on that wall and use the bins, table and flower elsewhere. Set the vase on the bottom shelf of the table.

I usually get mine locally at World Market, Hobby Lobby, or Target, unless I’m ordering online. I think round might break up all the square shapes a bit, but square ones would look fine, too.

I think the pattern of the baskets and the vase don't work together. The vase looks much better on the bottom shelf, but I would remove whatever you replaced it with on the top of the table. There's plenty of "stuff" in that area and sometimes less is more. Let the painting have the spotlight there with nothing in front of it.

Since you have plenty of color and pattern with the vase, the table, and the painting, I might try plain rattan baskets that will kind of blend in and disappear under the bench. I think 3 would look better than 2, if you get a similar size to what you have now.

while I like the type of look you're after, the bench isn't working. for one it's too low, and two, it's a bench! can you substitute a console for that spot?

When you say “tiny house”, do you mean something like on TV, 200 sq. ft., with a loft? Really small spaces seem to work best when pared to the essentials.

For that you would need a small TV, since you’re sitting so close. It just seems odd to have a large TV hanging in the entryway, with a grouping of non-essential objects next to it.

I like the striped vase underneath much better. Since this is an entryway, I would put a small cobalt blue pottery dish on top to catch keys. I am a sucker for green and blue together, so I would love to see two of these baskets under the bench:

Something you might consider is raising your tv and art so it would be above head height of anyone sitting on the bench. Add a single wide shelf just above that level -- all across that wall -- and hang your art and tv above the shelf.

Above the shelf, leave the wall painted the same color as the room. Below the shelf, you could add white peel and stick wainscoting or wallpaper it -- or peel and stick contact paper -- or add a mural or you could paint the wall a different color as an accent wall -- even black, or choose your favorite bold color ... or leave the current color but add more interest by bringing out your inner artist.

You can probably find something very similar at ebay, a local potter, even Amazon or target, or other more local etsy stores. If you have thrift stores like goodwill or an antiques/collectible store - you'll find something similar for very little $$. Also check World Market or Pier One.

A bench--any bench--looks weird and out of place below a TV. You simply cannot use the bench properly with a TV intruding over it, and that's noticeable. That's why nobody does it.

What about using storage boxs thaat are easily pulled about to sit on and to stopre stuff and skip the bench?

Depending on whether or not there are rambunctious kids who will be passing by this bench on a daily basis several times per day, a vase may or may not be safe in the location. :P Also something to consider: anything that is left open to the air (say, an basket without a cover/top, or the inside of a vase) will collect dust and so will any items being stored within the baskets. Do you want to dust these things frequently? I closed the vents in my closet for the central heat/air so my clothes/shoes don't have the duct work constantly pumping dust that is then coming out into the closet through the vents and settling on things. When I forget to vacuum underneath the beds along the wall(s) that the headboards are on at least once every two weeks, I could make a sweater from the dust bunny/fur shed from the dog with what's already collected by that point. Or just make a second dog from the stuff. ;)

IMHO the lack of a shelf makes any container just clutter. Saying that I know in my world I would need a mat for the shoes that would collect there. LOL Vase down on the shelf is better.

I know someone who had a bench below their tv - they used it to set up the game consoles (PS3, Xbox) on and a place to put the tv/cable remotes. And it was a HUGE tv, so it wasn't on the wall per se, but it pretty much took up the entire (side to side) horizontal space of the wall it was placed up against.

With the gigantic tv, nobody really noticed that there was a bench with gaming consoles and the remotes on it underneath. When they played guitar hero and other games, they blocked the view of the tv from everyone else who might have wanted to see it. ;)

I wasn't worried about the dust getting inside of decorative vases, on the stuff inside open baskets, or just plain settling onto open shelves...at first...As I acquired more things, the harder it was to dust around all the obstacles. The fact that I had to ruthlessly pare down what I had in my house in order to move across the country in August 2017 was just the kick in the tush I needed to get rid of the overflowing stuff I had accumulated since I moved into my old place back in 2002. I also learned a valuable lesson: I don't like having to dust or wash everything a second time because after the first one, I had the *cough* brilliant idea of keeping it on open shelves or open baskets. If I'm going to the trouble of putting a dish or a glass through a cycle in the dishwasher, I want to be able to use them WITHOUT needing to wash the dust out. Which is why my kitchen cabinets have doors on them and I store my glasses open side down. Dust gets everywhere but it can be made manageable with just a few tricks like storage bins/baskets with lids and not leaving stuff out or displaying too many items on any open shelving in the house.

I have a 5 open shelf one skinny bottom drawer etagere on the wall between the dining area and the main floor living room; four kiddos in the house and a dog that acts like she's ferocious and wild from time to time, so it's best to keep the number of items that can get broken to a minimum as it is. Add in needing to dust around objects on display (and under them, and behind them) has the potential for ME to break something, but it's not like I'm going to put decorative pillows on these shelves instead sooooooooooooooooo - the fewer items being kept out, the easier it is to avoid any accidental Hummel/Ceramic/Glass breakage.

Very happy looking spot. I think the idea of the storage cubes/ottomans is a nice one but I don't think they could be used for seating if needed. That would be just the actual bench that is already there...if the cubes will fit? Not sure I am following properly. (only had 2 cups of coffee so far not my usual 3)

Isn’t there a way to combine the function of the bench and the green entry table? A bigger bench - centered under the tv centered on that small wall - with a full-length shelf under the seat? Put a thick brightly colored cushion on the bench. Then get big square or rectangle wicker baskets to set on the shelf. If you have to have a place for keys, get a small wall mounted hook/shelf.

I just don’t think extra furniture is a solution to an existing challenge.

IMO the bench is all wrong for a TV , the TV needs to have storage for stuff related to the TV and also to hide the wires. That TV belongs on that wall with nothing else . The art and the green table are cute but need to be in an entry somewhere. The baskets and the bench need to find a new home , the vase is nice just not there , maybe on the bottom shelf of the stand. BTW if you don’t want the answer don’t ask the question , here very often we speak our minds and can go off topic because we see things from a different perspective .

right now, the only thing under my entry bench is a "tray" for people to put their messy boots or wet shoes when they come to visit. But this is a log home, so I don't wish for baskets there. The original photo you showed, however - those baskets looks fine.

I think you've made yourself clear, Snazzi. Your original statement did not clarify that the TV, bench, table and art were actually in the foyer, so you got a lot of suggestions you thought were irrelevant. I didn't see any answers that wouldn't be helpful if you could apply them, but some were given before all the facts were revealed. This is like a buffet; choose what you can eat and leave the rest. As for what to put under the bench, keep what you have until they become too dingy to use, then I advise new containers or even crates.
