Hi, I see no one has commented for you in a while. Speaking as someone who has just moved lighting during a renovation, let me say that it can be complicated and time-consuming and will require a building permit if you live inside city limits in the USA, at least, and probably in most other countries as well. Is there any way you could use your existing lighting connections and just find some fabulous fixtures that would make you happy? There is so much these days that can be done with lighting, particularly the multiple-head fixtures that can be directed to different parts of a room from one location. The company Visual Comfort has some absolutely beautiful fixtures that produce very soft lighting for a residential space. You might also consider area lamps to provide the light you need. A re-do of lighting on the scale you envision is probably something you'll need to first consult with in person with an electrician or lighting designer to see what could be done.

Thanks for your comments. We did go ahead and hire an electrician who put in 8 candles LED lights on a dimmer. Next the ceiling will get smoothed over as we always wanted to get rid of the popcorn. The lighting on dimmers makes a wonderful addition to this room. Can’t wait to see new ceiling ,paint and furniture.
