Last year my Cleaneffects Power Door failed. Replacemant was to be $1050. + install and since the whole installation is 12 years old I've decided to not repair it. However I've noticed that the whole house dust level has increased considerably since it stopped working. I'm being told by my dealer that we should remove the prefilter, field charger and the 2 collection cells and just add a regular 1" pleated filter for dust collection.
Some questions that I have are:
1. Are the collection cells doing anything at all...should I just clean them and leave them in?
2. If not filtering are they restricting the air flow?
3. Would it be better to leave the prefilter in and replace the collection cells with a larger pleated filter (not sure what size would fit right now...maybe 3"?
Whole system has been dealer maintained since installed (2007) and I would like to get a few more years out of it (XL19i with varibale speed airhandler).
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
