Dining room help

last modified: 5 years ago

What is this room missing? The mirror was hanging horizontally on the wall opposite the windows but seemed off. I'm thinking of hanging on the wall it's leaning on. What other information do you need? Room dimension ? It's sort of an awkward room. I'd like to lighten the room up and not be so formal.

Thinking of putting it where the long dresser is now

If there is room in the closet where it is now I would leave it there and replace your bedside tables with chests. The room isnt large and one whole wall is compromised of doors so having the walls open would not be a bad thing. For some reason my idea books are only showing a few of my saved items ......anyone else? So infuriating! So I can't pull anything from them except a couple of ideas. Anyway I would do a good sized chest on either side of the bed. As large as will fit. So nice lamps on top and you could even do a mirror above each or a piece of art above each .

art and a interesting shaped mirror like I mentioned before. Of course this is a formal room and not you style but just to give you an idea of what I am saying.

I like DIS's idea. Keep tall dresser in closet, remove the long dresser/mirror and nightstands. Pick large chests in different finish than bed for "nightstands" It will give you an entirely different lighter look! I'd do a big piece of art between those 2 doors to balance the blue wall across.

Oh yes! Always Max night stands with drawers if possible. Agree keep tall dresser in closet if possible. Just have to be careful to keep height of side cabinets close to height of mattress. I can’t remember the last house I put large dressers in. Everything is now in closets wherever possible.

I don’t know if this blue would work with wall color but I love it.

Love these ideas! Okay so this is my thinking now. I am going to keep all the walls neutral. I don't want to be limited by the wall color in case I find an awesome colored nightstand! Will place the nightstands and long dresser/mirror for sale today. Also, saw this on Craigslist. Has a 32 in diameter. For above the bed maybe?

I don't think a mirror over the bed would be the best thing. It will reflect the other doors? And so I think art is better, but first figure out nightstands. Then next step is lamps, then art or mirrors behind the lamps, then other features.

So I finished painting the bedroom and I have someone coming to look at the dresser/mirror and possibly nightstands in 20 min. Wish me luck!

You'll find the right buyer. I one sold an Ethan Allen 3 drawer chest . I had a woman drive an hour and a half to look at it then not buy it because the Ethan Allen marker INSIDE the drawer was a metal plate and not burned into the wood. I do understand that said difference was directly related to the age of the piece etc. But she loved it and drove that far. If I loved something how it was branded would be of no consequence!

She could have verified that over the phone. Yea. Just need right buyer.

Flo I even had a picture of the Ethan Allen marker in the listing. People are funny. My point simply that the right person will come but there may be some along the way that make you scratch your head and think hmmmm.

Our county is having a major spike in Covid cases so we decided to wait on selling the furniture for now. In the meantime I just finished painting the master bedroom closet. Still have the hall and baby's room to paint. After I'll finish up the half bathroom. Phew!

Carpet was installed today. It appears more gray and now I'm not sure of the wall color. The girl's room wall color seems to look better with the carpet. Thoughts??

They all work with the carpet. The lighting is what is tricking your eye. Each area has different lighting. You would be ombreing your home with paint if you tried to adjust every single corner for lighting fluctuations. I think the carpeting looks beautiful.

@Design Interior SouthThank you! 😊 I think I need to get used to it. It was such a dark brown color before.

That and your rooms don't have all the furniture in place yet which will take up a large portion of visible carpeting.

It all works great together, like you said, you have to adjust to the huge change...it really looks great

    Hi ladies!

I hope you have been holding up well 💜 It's been a hectic few months but I am back hoping for some help deciding on a mirror for the half bathroom. Unfortunately the wallpaper kept peeling off the wall so I finally just took it down. 😣 I think it was because of the orange peel texture the wall has. Right now the walls are SW White Duck and look really creamy with the lights on. Thinking I should get different bulbs. The room is pretty much a blank slate now. Anyways, with the mirror, I am stuck on what color frame and shape to choose.

I tend to lean to round mirror for this room. I love letting your powder room be more exciting than same ole, same ole. Even just painting bold color and using great artwork or framed pictures is more interesting than neutral everything. Which direction do you want to go? Which of these are you drawn to?

Hi Allie, so nice to hear back from you. How is the rest of your home coming along? Girls room? Dining room?

Was the wallpaper peel and stick? That stuff is awful. A wallpaper plus paste will stick to any surface however if you have an orange peel or knock down drywall using a wallpaper liner is best to avoid the texture showing through.

Is the vanity cabinet black? I can't remember. The space is pretty void of texture so I would think about bringing in some texture with a bamboo or rattan mirror.

@Flo Mangan I like the first photo you posted! I think a pretty mirror like that would be lovely but a tad too formal fir my taste. The tile in that room is beautiful! I was actually hoping to go bod in the kids bathroom upstairs!

    @Design Interior South

Girls room is just as we left it except with new carpet and a bit messy lol. Dining room looks the same except for thicker drapes for the winter. I stopped decorating for a bit. We have had seven family/friend deaths from February to November. Only one Covid related so just a crazy year.

Anyways, your right. The bathroom is lacking a lot. What size mirror should I look for? It's a black 36in vanity.

What do the floors look like?

@btydrvn It is sheet vinyl right now. We are thinking about replacing with tile. In the photo you can see the tile sample I brought home.

The wallpaper was prepasted but I could see the texture through. I probably didn't apply it correctly for it to have kept lifting.

So sorry to hear of your awful family losses. It has been a difficult year. Looking forward to vaccines for covid. I got my last dose of vaccine for Shingles today. I had it done many years ago but they are recommending this new 2 dose method. As to your powder room, I think painting it a deep color to go with flooring you will be installing later. You can find a variety of nice mirrors for over your vanity. With a 36” vanity probably 24-30 wide mirror. Lots of choices out there.

@Flo Mangan I like the round mirror! Since my girls use this bathroom to brush teeth and hair I was thinking of adding a blush color somehow. The room has a door to both the living room and girl's room.

This one is a champagne color. Would that go with chrome hardware?

@Design Interior South I really like the natural look of the ratten. Is there another way I could incorporate natural elements? Would a basket on the back of the toilet look okay?

Yes pricey but I could see a project to have your girls reproduce it with some help. Maybe even glue on some real feathers. Finger paint the body. Frame in a shadow box frame. It would be meaningful and so cute. 😍

Okay, looking around online today at what is in store near me for the mirror, basket and hand towels. Any of these options work together.
