If the bloom results in a fruit, you should get harvest in December or January. I have two on my roof terrace in containers that are blooming now; I expect fruit in December

Valencia orange has been bursting with blooms and the new flush of leaves.

One thing I love about our valencia orange is the smell of the flowers. We have been juicing ours before they go bad and freezing the juice in in ice trays.

The Valencia orange has been doing very well. Over the next week I expect it to drop most of the young fruit. It might keep....one. Temps are in the mid 80's now

July 19 Update: I have two Valencia oranges this year

They look great. I bet you will really enjoy them.

Ours have just started lightening a little bit and I suspect we will have a few ready by early December.

Actually being able to harvest different fruits one after the other and in Canada! I'm still blown away.

Here is an update on the Valencia oranges. They are starting to turn!! I read they can colour up in the winter but not be ready until March -April.

FYI Valencia oranges were developed in the US (https://citrusvariety.ucr.edu/citrus/CRC4231.html) but was named Valencia even though it has nothing to do w/ that region of Spain. Regardless of origin though, a citrus "pet" is always a worthy project!

Both our Valencia and Navel oranges are ripe now. Photo is the Valencia taken yesterday. I hadn't realized that they came from UC Riverside, although I was well aware of UCR's work in the citrus industry. My husband and I met at and spent our freshman and sophmore years at UCR. A free date was walking up to the botanic gardens and citrus groves.

In my area, Newhall and Fukumoto navels are ready but will sweeten more over the next few weeks. My Valencias are not ready... they should be in late March / April as they take time to sweeten and mature. Keep in mind that color is only a hint of maturity; its more an indication of cool nights. Another example, my Sanguinelli's are "orange" but in no way ready now... they will be in late April. If in doubt... let it hang!

@uncle molewacker z9b Danville CA (E.SF Bay) We hedge our bets, because the critters love our oranges. We will take some now, but leave some for later. We still have frozen juice from last year so no hurry there, but we were out of zest. We use the zest to make an orange salt that we put on poultry. It is pretty amazing stuff.

Thanks! I did have some white fly that I blasted with the hose last April- May. Since then there have been no issues. Thankfully lol

The one that was picked! I was doing some reading and it says they turn golden when fully To me it looks like it was. Not so much orange like a Washington Navel or the Hamlin.

It was delicious and soo sweet. ..shared it with the family. This was the smaller one of the two. I will pick the second one in a week or so.

Valencia orange is the best orange in my opinion, and is a little more sour/aromatic and has more flavor, but it does take more heat to fully ripen than other orange varieties, and Valencia grown in cooler climates often do not taste as good, it is said.

Anyway, I think Valencia oranges will probably taste better if they come from an older tree, and I would start withholding water when the fruit is ripening.
