Looks like a nice LR I really do not understand what your issues are with it. It is a nice size thank god the TV does not need to go above the FP you could do sofa 2 chairs or 2 sofas it will not matter if you put pieces in front of the windows IMO just use a sofa table with lamps behind the sofa

Do you have anywhere else in the home to watch TV. Yes the current sofa isn’t doing the space any favors but it does show that having a TV there will compromise something: block the windows or do less seating in order to have TV and FP. Really those type of houses you either embrace the era stone or you do a full gut. No middle ground with that.

First of all, I LOVE the picture @Denita posted. I can see why you’d be perplexed at how or if this room could work for you. I mean, whoever staged this home needs to look for a new vocation, that’s for sure. The way it’s set up now is very off-putting with the view of the back of that (awful) reclining sofa thing (which is even uglier than the front) being at the entrance to the room. BIG no-no.

And then there’s the tv at the end, all by itself, as the focal point. (This house isn't currently owned by gamers, by any chance, is it??)

Now, to your options! Do you know the dimensions of the room? Will it be used as a living room or as a family room (i.e., a room for informal family lounging and tv-watching)? If the latter, is there room enough to mount a tv on the fireplace wall—either to the left or right of it, not above?

Since this is the front of the house, are you concerned about privacy, in which case you’d need window treatments? Actually, even if privacy isn’t a concern, if you’ll be watching tv in there, you’ll want a way to soften the light coming into the room if the room gets any direct sunlight. And for those windows, I’d probably use a combination of curtains and textured shades, with the shades being in a usual state of being unrolled to about the top of the second window.

That is a “tricky” configuration of windows for sure, but they can be dealt with. Hopefully you have air conditioning and don’t need to open any of them frequently (or at all!) so that you can at least remove the cranks!!

It would be good to get answers to some of those questions for sure

I love it, but it's not as good for someone who has to have a tv in there, though I think that's true of most living rooms.

Without that large overstuffed chunky sofa, the room will look much better.

I think it is a lovely living room with a lot of potential! Great for enjoying the snow fall while sitting in front of the fire all nice and cozy :0)
