That is such a pretty difference already, Amoeba ! I love boxwoods . They are so easy to maintain and add such year round freshness and grounding to the landscape. Redbuds are gorgeous and a nice choice, too. Exciting !

Love the shape of the stone outline of the bed. Love redbuds. Hope it gets morning sun only? No hot sun. Gulp.

Looking great! Isn't this fun? I had a front yard landscaping project done (of about the same magnitude as yours) several years ago. I was on cloud nine for days and though I've swapped out a plant or two over the last few years, I'm still super happy with it.

Love it, can’t wait to see the plant colors you will be adding.

Love love love it!! I can't believe those are the same stones. The landscapers did a great job with them. They are very irregular with different thicknesses and shapes. They dug down and built a layer of substrate before placing the stones. So glad I didn't attempt to do this myself. Tree ball was so heavy that they had to use a tractor to lift it. Details of what is planted in the next post.

Boxwood 'Green Velvet'

Alchemilla mollis 'Lady's Mantle'. These will have clusters of yellow flowers.

Salvia 'May Night'. These will have stalks of purple flowers.

Allium tanguticum "Summer Beauty' Ornamental Onion. These will have pink flower balls.

Nepeta x faassentii 'Walker's Low' Catmint. This is the same large lavender-blue plant that I have lining the south side of the house.

I can't wait for everything to start blooming!

The only downside to the front looking so great now, is that the backyard looks a bit neglected. I'm now in the process of applying a new layer of mulch everywhere!

They pressure washed the stones - no cleaning solution or anything!

Thanks for all the complements, everyone! Feedback on the block has been incredible. One of my neighbors is putting the extra stones to good use in their yard. Another neighbor was worried that we were getting ready to sell our house. Doing a design 'redo' on the outside of our house turned out to be the perfect thing during a pandemic.

I'll post more pictures when we get some blooms!

Is this a normal pre-bloom look for ornamental onions (Allium tanguticum)?

Some members of the onion family, like garlic, do this and they turn up toward the sun as they mature. Unless they get munched before they get a chance. Just ask my drumstick alliums. :(
My inner Elmer Fudd is really tired of those waskety wabbits.

SPRING! Last fall I transplanted some daffodils and allium and planted new hyacinth and muscari bulbs. So exciting to see everything come to life. (Especially since I kind of forgot what I planted. Old age for the win!)

Hi Amoeba, good to hear from you! Funny that you forgot what you planted. It could absolutely happen to me as well - and that has nothing to do with old age, I’m afraid. Everything looks smashing! Love the colours (as you know) and that tree is absolutely beautiful. It looks particularly good against the new shutters and the roof of your bay, that last pic is amazing!

My favorite tree is any form of red bud. I had two beauties in one of our yards and they are just gorgeous!! Your yard is looking great! Bet you get lots of ooohs and aaahs from passerby folks!

The garden looks great! I always do a “planting map” when I put things in the ground or else I have no idea what is coming up. I have a ton of day lilies and couldn’t identify them without my map.
