Augusta Luise, Abracadabra, and Gigi

last modified: 6 years ago

Augusta Luise rose (TANgust/Fox-Trot/Hayley Westenra/Rachel), bred by Hans Jürgen Eversin (Germany, 1998) and released in Germany in 1999. The 6-inch blooms are in peach and light yellow and age to salmon-pink with strong, fruity, sweet fragrance. The blooms have ruffled edges and have up to 50 petals. This rose is very healthy in my garden and is one of my perfect roses. All the pics below were taken in July 2019. Helen

Abracadabra (Forkasu Porkasu/KORhocsel), floribunda/florist rose discovered by W. Kordes & Sons (Germany, 2002). 2.75-inch blooms have deep red with yellow stripes. Sometimes some of the blooms revert to Black Beauty(KORfleur), discovered by W. Kordes & Sons (Germany, 1998), which has dark red blooms. I love both the striped and the solid red blooms. Helen

The issue is not their magnificence but rather how to get hold of them! My taste runs to Augusta L (also my sweet mothers name). I paid $50 to get on a wait list for her. Hope it works for fall 2020 or spring of 2021. Great photography and roses thanks for sharing.

Superb photos, I especially like Augusta Luise. The fruity fragrance sounds wonderful.

Freedom Gardens often has AL on offer and will custom propagate for $25. Peter also carries Ascot and other rarities so have at it! I pick mine up in June, hopefully! : ))

BayAreaGirl, when you run out of ideas, perhaps you could post a list of your "Perfect" roses! I know we're in different zones, but so many of us could glean something from it. : ))

    Thank you everyone.

Every time I see a pic of Augusta Luise, I think of Diane. She is the one who showed the magnificent Augusta Luise in her garden, and we all want one. It's a perfect rose in every way, unique beautiful look, repeat, fragrance, and health. Thanks Diane.

Vap, some of my perfect roses in no particular order: Spirit of Freedom, Augusta Luise, Bathsheba, Evelyn, Quick Silver, Gigi, Teasing Georgia, The Wedgewood Rose, Olivia Rose Austin, Poseidon, Candice, Peter Mayle, Peach Swirl, Stranger, Marriotta, Pompon Veranda, Scepter'd Isle... The three perfect roses that I don't have in my garden are Juliet (David Austin wedding rose), Rainy Blue, and Miyabi (Japanese rose). Helen

Sorry I misspoke (mistyped)- I actually paid for 2 Augusta's at Freedom Gardens to be sent when they are again available. I did not think about having them propagate for me because it takes so long but maybe that was a better choice. To my knowledge they are not available yet but I gave Peter a call after reading this post. Ascot sure is a beauty also, I wonder why these are not more readily available?

Thanks to you also, Helen. Your Augusta is gorgeous and I can see why she is one of your "perfect" roses. She's one of mine also. Abracadabra is scrumptious. I don't think I've ever seen a bloom more velvety. Thanks for sharing your special roses in these threads. Diane

Austin, if you paid for them, he is custom-propagating them and putting them aside for you so they aren't sold during his June sale. Once it's his June Open House, he holds back the plants he's rooted so as not to disappoint all those who've driven far distances to visit and buy roses. Once the Open House is over, he opens the sale back up.He is rooting more and more often so many different varieties are available at different times. It's a small operation;; his main focus is writing The Combined Rose List (which he'll do solo now I suppose that his collaborator has died this year), and writing other books and articles. I've been very pleased with those I've received thus far. The more we order, the more he'll propagate. Check his list from time to time. It's the same to ship 3 as 2! : )) This year I'm getting AL, Paul Jerabek, Greetings and maybe a couple others. Last year I got Dream Land, Ascot and Jerabek's Peggy M.

Thank you Ohio. I think I will now add Ascot to my order. He called me back to say nothing will be available until 2021... My mom Is in heaven guess she will have to wait to see her namesake in my garden. She loved that I loved to garden. He sounds like a lovely gentleman. I discovered him from threads here.

You touched my heart. My entire focus of the garden is a memorial to my mom!
