If you know, cabinet manufacturer, you can order panels with matching finish and raise the crown molding to the ceiling.

Thanks! I will try that but I was hoping to not use wood as I have read that it is harder to work with and we would likely have to hire someone to do it which would make it much more expensive. Am I wrong about that?

That’s too tall to look good proportionately with the height of the room and the height of the cabinets. . It will look like a soffit. So you might as well just install a drywall soffit. It’s much cheaper.

I never saw foam panels being used to extend tops of the cabinets, and even if they do have them you would still need some sort of support built for the panels to be attached too plus the crown molding to be reinstalled, etc

That said, IMO I would leave the way it is, you have a beautiful kitchen as is, and if you start using foam products who know what the outcome might be and it might look even worst.

Staggered cabinets, and the mosaic design behind the cooktop, are both dated. Live with what you have, and save for a major update.
