    Thanks My 3.

It was interesting for me to know the back stories to some of the things that were mentioned.

Just watched it on Netflix. Very interesting story. I missed that you said that you had worked there until after I watched it.

I have to say that although a bit raw, this film does document the struggles and triumphs of this population.

I never thought of the camp as run by hippies, but I guess it was! The film presents things wilder than what was the case. At least in the summers I worked there.

The camp was divided into teens and adults. I worked with the adults. Yes, there were things going on, but not as crazy as it looked in the documentary.

Back story: I guess because they had so little footage of anything back then, they showed the crab infestation story. Curious about what others thought of the how of this.

One of the counselors was married and his wife came up on his day off. They spent the night in oneof the local B&B’s. He then came back and informed the camp that the place they stayed in was infested.

The nurse decided to disinfect the entire camp. It took days. But,everyone worked together and that is what Judy highlighted in that clip. The organization and coming together for a good cause.

It was a wonderful, eye-opening, inspirational touching film. Thank you for bringing it to my attention!

As for the crabs, I think it was part of making a point about sexuality in order to humanize a group that was "dehumanized." We still have a tendency to think of people in terms of their disability.

I used to have a deaf person who worked for me in a pretty senior role. It took me a long time to realize I was dehumanizing him, in the following sense. I think because he had this disability and I felt sorry for him, I somehow attributed to him qualities he did not have. It took me a year or two to realize he was kind of a jerk, LOL.

I think the thing about movies like these, is they make you stop and think about how easy it is for us to distance ourselves emotionally from "differentness," of ANY KIND. We have to keep reminding ourselves not to do that!

PS I'd love to hear more, Eld, if you are ok to share, about how you came to work there and what it was like? Was it happenstance or is this your field?
