I'm back and rearing to go

last modified: 6 years ago

Hi guys,I've been gone from here for a while for personal reasons but am ready to get active here again. I've missed you.
I just this week finished a new butterfly garden...finished until I find more plants that I can't live without 😁
I've already seen monarchs, orange-barred sulphurs, polydamas and Gulf frits laying eggs. In fact, I counted 30 orange-barred cats from teeny weensy to 2 inches long, so the fun is beginning.
I'll be bringing quite a few eggs and cats into an enclosure to save them from our lizards.
You can expect lots of pictures in the near future.

Hello, Rhonda -- so terrific to see you back here! My butterfly garden took off last year, thanks to your generous gifts and inspirational pics.

Cannot wait to see what you've got going now and throughout the year.

Iris and Javi, I missed you. So glad to be back.

Iris, is the popcorn cassia doing well for you? Is it in the ground or potted?

Javi, your garden looks great! I see the red porterweed. Could you spare a few cuttings? I'd be happy to pay for the postage. I'd love it in my new garden. Can't find it anywhere. I have a different address. Do you still have my email?

Long story short, my last garden was dismantled when I divorced my ex. Had a one day, bring your own shovel and transportation garden give away. Broke my heart to dig up that garden 😫 But, live and learn. Starting fresh in life and the garden and I'm extremely happy.

    Take care my friends.

Oh, so sorry to hear your news. I hope your plants found good homes, and I have zero doubt your next garden will be even better. Guess what? I absolutely have a red porterweed rooted and ready to go! I'm sure I still have your email -- will check in with you in a few moments.

Oh, thank you soooooo much. But, if it's your only cutting I want you to keep it.

Nope, I have a couple. Plus, the one remaining plant is sprouting again, so I know I can easily root more. I just messaged you through GWeb.

Javi could not have said it better. Leaving my yard for any reason would really break my heart. As messy it currently is since I am so behind with all the rain we have been getting. I am usually having the popcorn cassia in the ground. They make it to bloom, but not to seed. Your seeds are still working though. First Monarch today and she left eggs on my maybe 1 inch tall milkweed. So the new season begins :)

Javi, I don't see a message. Did you message me with this profile as I had to create a new one.

The plants went to great butterfly people, so it made it a little easier

I'm glad that you both have had success with my plants and seeds. That makes me happy 😁

Oops! I messaged to your previous one...back in a sec.

I don't think you have your messaging turn on.

I finally got your message and just responded. Evidently, I still have the old account as well😁

    Thank you soooo much.

    My pleasure!

    Iris,

Glad to hear that the popcorn cassia seeds are still viable.

We haven't had ran in a couple of months so I'm having to water a lot until the plants are established. Hopefully, rainy season will arrive early.

Hey, Rhonda. I was wondering where you were. I figured that your other household didn't work out. You are still in Florida, I assume, because you mentioned that it hasn't rained in almost two months. It was one of the driest Marches ever in Central Florida. The water levels are still pretty high though, so we can water without fear of hurting the water supply. I have the red and lavender large porterweeds. If you need me to send you some cuttings let me know.

    Hi Tom,

Yep, won't go into detail but I'll just chalk it up to a huge lesson in what not to do 🤔

I'm still in Englewood and very happy to be gardening again.

Javiwa (Alice) is sending me some Amistad and red porterweed cuttings from the plants grown from the cuttings that I sent her. So, it's like I'm getting some of my plants back.

I'd love to have some lavender ones! Are you sure that they're lavender? I seem to recall that you had trouble distinguishing lavender, violet, purple. 😁 I'll try and message you my address. Of course, I'll reimburse you for the postage.

It was supposed to rain tonight, don't know if it did since I'm working overnight in th ER (on break now).

I hope that you're doing well. It was good to hear from you.

Well, you know since I'm male that I'm color challenged, but East of Eden labeled them as lavender and they are clearly a lighter color than the darker, more purple ones. They are vigorous growers and the hummers love them. Let me know if you want cuttings.

I think a few years ago we both received cuttings of the red porterweed from the same man. I haven't seen him posting since, though.

Let me know if you want cuttings. Again, glad to see that you are back.

Tom, you know I was just teasing about the color. 😁

I hope the other Tom is doing well. I searched for his posts and it's been quite a while.

I would love some lavender cuttings! Could you please message me as I am not having any luck. I think I still have my old account as well as this one. Thanks!
