fireplace and mantel help

I want to modernize my fireplace and mantle. It is 75"wide so not a standard size. I would paint the brick, not sure on color and what to do with the mantle as its custom and do not want to spend a lot of money. Ignore the decor that will change but the revere pewter color on the wall will stay. Thanks in advance!
