Freaky gas prices....

.94 cents a gallon at our local Costco & Sam’s Club. 30 minutes from here, it’s .88 cents. It felt like I was in the twilight zone when I saw that on Gas Buddy.

On the bright side, a lot of auto insurers are issuing credits. I'm not sure if it has to do with reserve ratios or if they are truly rewarding customers because traveling and claims are down. Either way, I'm happy to get a credit.

A good time to buy Gift Cards for your local station..and then just hang on

    to them for awhile.

    Gasoline is $1.68 here.

Our auto insurance rebate is 15% for March & April unless this takes us into May, then the insurer will consider another rebate. It's not much since our premium is $55 per month for two cars.

Our refuse fees are being adjusted higher until May 31st. Since families are eating at home versus restaurants, schools, offices, etc., residential trash volume has increased by 30%.

Now dummies will be hoarding gasoline in their garages, endangering their families and neighbors.

Wow, Lukki, that’s crazy low. I have two Sam’s Clubs near me but one is always priced much lower than the other and is currently $1.58 for regular unleaded. However, at Exxon and Shell closest to my house it has been $2.15 for at least three weeks.

USAA is giving us a 20% refund/credit for April and May for our car insurance.

That's insane! How low will they go!? It's still $1.78 a gallon here.

I hadn’t heard about the insurance rebates. Ours here in Michigan is the highest in the nation due to some medical benefit they have tied to it that costs a small fortune. Our Governor passed a new law effective in June that will allow consumers to opt out of it to lower costs and Insurance companies are all not to happy about it. I’m going to check but I seriously doubt that a credit of any kind is in our future.

4kids, I just checked and the surrounding stations are about in the same range. I’m so glad that we have a Sam’s and Costco close to us, those are the only gas places we use.

I haven't been to a gas station in over a month but +/- $3.00 per gallon seems to be the magic threshold here in California. Same source - Gas Buddy. California has its own requirements for gasoline (for pollution control reasons) that's claimed to be more expensive to refine so we're our own little market. Cheaper gas from other states can't be brought in.

Gas has a shelf life (so to speak) so in places where driving is virtually nonexistent this could be encouragement to fill up. Although you can't fill an already full tank so the customer base may be limited.

Ours is down to $2 at Costco. We have high taxes on gas because that is how we finance roads and bridges in this state. No income tax. It seems fair.

Listened to some reporting about this - demand is way, way down on top of the already falling crude oil prices.

And I learned that buying a gift card actually is a good way to support a local business right now - it's basically an interest-free loan.

    Around here it's around $1.75/gal.

Cheapest here is $1.74 ($1.73⁹) but it's further than I'll drive just to get gas.

I'll pay $1.90 ($1.89⁹) and be happy with that.

Ours is $2.29 at the local station. Monday we are heading to WV. We usually fill up while we are over their . The gas is always cheaper. Last time I was there about a month ago it was $1.98. Curious to see what it is now.

Not the same - crude prices had been going down for some time, & then Russia pulled a stunt at the last OPEC meeting, which made it worse, is how I understand it:

It's $2.29 at our local Sam's Club and Costco here in Southern CA. It's convenient since they're only a block apart and about a mile from our house. That is, convenient when you're driving more.

It varies here in S Florida. I was in Tequesta (North end of Palm Beach county) Monday Apr 6 2020 and for the most part around the county its $1.84/gallon to $1.99/gallon but in Tequesta I saw a high of $2.39/gal for regular gas (cash) and right across the street $2.09/gallon. I saw one at $1.65/gal in West Palm Beach on Monday too.

Supply and demand with elements of fear and greed affect commodity prices. Retail and wholesale are tied together.

Widespread illness, demand drops. When demand drops, prices drop. Suppliers respond to such price drops by decreasing production (supply), which normally would nudge prices up. It's basic micro-economics.

OPEC isn't a an organization that sees a lot of unanimity of thought or action among members because each is looking out primarily for their own interest. That's not new. What's typical is that two will zig one way, 3 zag another way, and nothing is agreed upon overall.

So cal here....$3.09. But I think it's about that time we're switching to our summer mix and, hey, it's California. Better than Hawaii.

Usually when prices are low it’s only customary to find a line of cars waiting to take advantage. For the past 3 days, when I passed by there were no cars at all. Now THAT’s freaky too. I’m an essential worker and it was stunning to pay lass then 13.00 to fill up my tank.

Lukki Irish, I know what you mean regarding no gas lines. Sam's and Costco are always jammed. The other day at Sam's there was a total of 4 cars, counting ours.

Eight eight cents. I'll jump in my car and drive there just for the thrill. Nothing else going on.

At .88 gallon, that doesn't leave much of a profit for the dealer. In Ohio, Fed, state and local taxes average .57 per gallon.
