hostas in Indianapolis

some look perfect..next week's frost could change that..the pots are safe and making progress except for Praying Hands..the Blue Mouse Ears in a small blue pot that appeared dead has a green eye!..today I discovered a heaved Blue Mouse Ears..it should be easy to dig up Lol..I'm thinking I'll put the 3 tiny BMEs together..I'm enjoying my daily inspections..

I keep waiting for the weather forecast to shift to warmer weather like it was doing previously this late winter/early spring, but no such luck (yet). Is that a Glad Rags I see in that Proven Winners pot? (Surely not).

steve..it was tagged Autumn Frost..when I bought it last fall (for $1) the foliage was blue green and creamy white..I didn't know that it starts off so yellow..whatever it does I like both color versions..

Lookin good so far, things are just getting started here. My Montana A. Has no common sense again this year, it’s starting to unfurl already. I know it’s always an early one, but really........

Sherry..unfortunately I have quite a few without common sense..I'm concerned about the cold spell but like others have problems protecting them..so many, not sure what to use etc..yesterday I went to the back to check my Montana A.s..nothing visible..could be pips under the leaf litter but I didn't disturb it..several here say it's an early one but mine's slow..I guess for now that's a good thing..

Throw a few fistfuls of soil in the BME pot and then walk away.

utog..that's an old sugar container that I use in the garden sometimes..but I have pots with drainage and I'll plant it tomorrow..

Ann, I hope the snow will fall elsewere...we had another cold night with -5°C and I'm afraid to look outside later when daylight comes...No chance to cover 400 pots.

But luckily mine are not so big yet, they are slow this year...

Karin..I didn't cover anything..I hate to flatten them..how do you keep big sheets or covers from drooping and resting on the plants?..and if the snow weighs them down even more?..it seemed like more harm than good so I'm going to live with whatever happens..

We have to wait and see...and if there is damage we know they will be back beautiful in no time at all :-) No chance to cover mine with sheets, the wind is so strong that I'm more afraid that the sheets will help to tear down my hosta stairs...

Karin..the same here..we found a long (15 ft) dead limb (thick as a man's calf) stuck in the ground standing straight up..husband pulled hard 4?5? times before it came out..amazingly it didn't damage anything..

Jamming sticks and stakes in the ground and then draping the sheet over them helps. Only a couple of leaves on the edge of the larger mounds were bent/damaged by the weight of the weight, heavy sheet.

Best of luck with the snow. Hope everything does OK.
