You are going to need to be more clear about what you are asking. You want to put tin on the ceiling and change the light fixture?

i'm not sure either. do you mean cladding the ceiling w/the same wood on the island?

I think what you have is perfectly sufficient. you have a low ceiling, so doing it in wood (or tin, or whatever) may be a bit too much.

what if you did the wood across the way in the room?

The kids want something different in the kitchen. So we talked about changing out the ceiling with tin/wood, or changing the front of the bar or suggestions for the light over bar?

As stated, the ceiling is pretty low to do anything like you've mentioned. You'd have to remove the crown from the tops of the cabinets and then attach them after you did the ceiling treatment. And I don't think you'd be able to do wood (unless it was really thin) because it might interfere w/opening those top cab doors.

however, you may be able to do some tin. (or the faux stuff. Or, you guys could do a stencil)

Could you DIY a light over the island?

as for the front of the island you could stencil, or tile, or stencil a tile-look, or you could do a shiplap or tongue and groove and paint it.

If you stencil (you'll have to replace that current wood front) a pattern that looks like 6x6 or 8x8 cement tile, that would be a nice idea.

I actually like this black and white one. your walls would look good in the black like in the pic.

did you know you can paint your ceramic floor tiles? If you did them in a deep charcoal or black, it would look really nice next to your cabinets and wood floor. then you could accent w/the black and the industrial type of hanging lights.

or you could paint them the same color tan/beige as your backsplash tile, just one solid color, and maybe do a very simple stencil pattern in the charcoal.

one more idea for island front.

chevron wood cut and glued to fit. pick a color that is a bit brighter so you can see it.

Gotcha. One, I wouldn't do anything to the ceiling. It looks like she has 8 ft ceilings. Standard height but I think adding tin, detail, etc will draw too much attention on make the area feel smaller. I always want to draw no attention to an 8 ft ceiling. Two, that are looks like it might be pretty open to the main living space so adding detail to the ceiling in the kitchen only might visually disrupt the flow.
You're best option would be adding detail to that island. You could add bead board, board and batten, shiplap, etc to add texture and style. Then find a stylish show stopping light to hand over the island and those simple subtle changes will really transform her kitchen. You may even consider painting the base of the island to transform the space.
