Need help with master bedroom makeover

First off, excuse the mess. I love our king size bed/headboard. I’m redoing/doing our entire bedroom since we’ve never really had matching/complementary pieces in my room. I love gray/white/clear or crystal colors because I can mix and match them with other color and they are easily interchangeable. I want to use that canvas (2nd picture) as my inspiration for color schemes. I really like the pink and coral colors in there but my husband wants the room to be something we can both enjoy (not just screaming pinks lol).

My thoughts were:

  • mirrored nightstands
  • repainting dresser in either gray, silver, or white
  • painting an accent wall in a light pink/coral
  • adding blackout curtains (in the same pink/coral)
  • changing light fixture to something with crystals
  1. How can I translate the tones and feeling of that canvas into the bedroom without making it over girly/glam?
  2. Does my plan above work? If not can you give me some suggestions?

I’ve added pictures of my bed, the inspirational canvas photo currently hanging in our bedroom, the dresser to be repainted, and the window the curtain would go over. Please note, our bedroom is small. It’s about

I love the idea of painting canvas with wall colors to see them in both day and night. That is something that always worries me.

I love the Behr Marquee Stolen Kiss color! I really like the Bebe Marquee Silver City too but I worry painting the whole room might make it look darker/smaller even with a lighter gray (but I could be totally wrong). I was planning to use the large rectangular mirror in one of the photos for above the dresser but I like the idea of the round mirror. I read somewhere that using round furniture/shapes make a small room look bigger. I was planning to repaint the “office” table to the same color as the dresser and maybe upholster the office chair? It might not be doable, I’d like to make it work because I have back problems and the chair specifically helps with that. However, I do agree with you. It clunky, black, ugly and would completely clash against the whole look of the bedroom.

I found two options that I think are white with gray undertones, Behr White Glove or Behr Pale Bud. Is this what you meant?

    Hi Ms. Parrilla!

I say try all 4 samples out! I'm not terribly familiar with all Behr shades but these are 2 that I used and like. You can also paint them on cardboard or poster board. Whichever wall color you pick, I think painting the dresser (and desk?) the same color will make it feel bigger. A different layout might help too.
If I may, I also recommend eggshell or satin wall finish and semigloss for the furniture. Flat paint seems to attract dirt and marks.
As far as the office, reupholstering the chair in a light color will definitely help. If the office must stay, finding a way to streamline everything over there is the main goal.
As far as the mirror: when you get to that point try yours first! I am all for using what we have.
Have fun, and keep us posted!

    Hi Ms. Parilla, any updates?

Hi drblount10! As of right now, we’ve had to put most things on hold. We’re in the process of buying our home and should be closing within 2 weeks fingers crossed. I did however get the Stolen Kiss Behr paint sample and my husband and I love it. I painted it onto a canvas and it definitely looks slightly different at night vs. day but it’s definitely a go. We are going to use it for our master bedroom in the new house. I did start the tedious process of sanding down the computer desk in preparation for painting and ughh the stress lol. I can’t decide on 2in pulls. The office won’t stay in our bedroom in the new house but I’ve already started the desk so now I’ve gotta finish it. I’m considering getting rid of the dresser instead of sanding/painting it and buying a mirrored dresser to match the night stands. I’ve also picked out the lamps for the night stands and a ceiling fan. I’m not 100% sure the ceiling fan will go with the look but I think it will. It’s a “fandelier”; I had no clue those things even existed! I’ll post a picture so you can see. The new room is comparable in size, if not slightly smaller.

Hi Ms. Parilla, fingers crossed for your closing. Glad you found a paint color you like! I didn't realize though, since you have picked a pinkish color, you may want to paint any furniture more neutral like a pale beige.
The fandelier is a hoot! I didn't know about them either! I love ceiling fans too! I would be curious to see it in action.
