This I could do...not gray

I know a lot of you are into whites and grays, but they leave me feeling so cold.

But I came across this shot of Bette Midler's kitchen, and this I could do. Bright, cheerful, yet warmth from the yellow tones to keep it cozier.

Ooooh. The terraces! That sofa in front of the window in the library! And some of her light fixtures had me drooling. Those are my favorite parts.

    I love all of it!

That is a beautiful home. I love those tall windows and the staircase is amazing. I would be in heaven with the glass door shoe cabinets.

It would be wonderful to have big doors in the kitchen that open to the outdoors like that. What an inviting space.

And that garden terrace walkway in NYC? Un-freakin-believable!

Fabulous, as befits The Divine! The whites were all lovely, creamy shades, and the wood accents throughout seem to keep it all well grounded. Thr only thing I don't care for is the tufted wall behind the bed, but I'd be willing to overlook it. 😁

Yes, I've seen this before... maybe even posted here. The terraces, w the checkerboard, are fantastic. Who needs anything else? I recall from last time, too, the unusual choice of keeping some of trim stained wood, kind of 70s ish. It works here because it isn't all over the place.

    Gorgeous home! And that view...love.

Yes Mt. I believe it's been posted here before - 2014 article. I love neutrals and do not have white or grays. Very pale cafe au lait is the paint color on most of our walls, a couple of rooms a bit darker. Wood floors and colors in accessories brings warmth and coziness in. No reds/yellows/oranges for us. I would not wear those colors so they do not feel right in our home.

    The terraces are wonderful!

That is very warm and inviting. I'm not a fan of white and gray either for the same reason - feels too cold. Her colors seem a bit too yellow for my taste - not a fan of yellow/gold/orange. I'm more of a cafe au lait person too. I look at real estate listings every day and so many are the same old gray and white. I get excited when I see something with stained trim and cabinetry and a warm color palette.

I remember the terraces and the wall of books from that article. The whole house seems like a cozy, comfortable place to live.

It was on the market in the fall for $50M but not sure if it sold. Such a beautiful home.

Ok, that Japanese hinoki wood soaking tub... looks like you'd have to soak in the fetal position and come out with leg cramps. Is it bigger than it appears?

The ones I used had a bench, so it's more like sitting in a chair; exceedingly comfortable and feels like you are more submerged than a normal bath.

No reds/yellows/oranges for us. I would not wear those colors so they do not feel right in our home.

Me too - I don't even want them in my garden.

That makes sense, Mtn, especially considering how deep it would be.

And remember Ms. Divine is very short!

Mt. our garden beds are all shades of blue/purple, pink and white. Yes, I decorate outside too. LOL

OK, gotta scoot - i'm violating my own morning/evening online limit!

I loved Bette Midler's interiors in Ruthless People (of course they were not hers but just sets), but then I've been a huge fan of Italian Memphis furniture from the beginning, which occurred while I was in design school. I even wrote one of my research papers on Ettore Sottsass, as he was my favorite designer at the time.

I wonder how Bette felt about the furniture in Ruthless People.

    Gorgeous home!

Fabulous home! The upholstered wall behind the bed was the lone off-note for me, too. I wouldn't normally gravitate to yellow walls, but the shade manages to just make her house look bright and sunny.

It’s a beautiful home. I agree with Cawaps about the upholstered wall though. Thanks for sharing.
