Yours is beautiful!!! Mine was new last year, and I think it died in my great garage die off. I can't remember. And last summer was dreadful for my roses...BUT, I do remember that Charles de Gaulle did better than most roses. No pictures, as I lost all of my computer pictures when my computer died. Don't you just LOVE the color?

Yes, I remember that I did love mine...it was brand new...but it seemed really special. I just did my pruning, and my Charles de Gaulle is alive...so you and I will be the ambassadors for the French Satatesman, Charles de Gaulle. :)

Sylvia - Im in SoCal close to the foothills, summers are dry and hot during the day but it cools down in the evenings. We are currently having a beautiful spring with lots of rain cool temps and some sun to mix it up. I feel like I put the rose in a bad spot and am tempted to dig it up and move it.. but I think im just gonna leave it alone and see how it does.

Your Charles de Gaulle is lovely haku! I tried It a couple of times, it was a very weak grower here, but I do love the blooms and the fragrance. I do wish it had done better for me!

Sara Ann your CDG is beautiful. Mine is a small rose so far I hope with my longer summers it will help this rose survive in my garden.

Chuckie opened his first bloom of the year today, his ears must have been burning that there was a thread about him. I agree he‘s a slow grower, but making much more growth this year than last year when he was new. He’s a really nice shade of lavender.

Ben - So according to Ann's experience yours has the younger plant color. Interesting to see if it changes. Lovely!!

Sara-Ann - yours looks very much like a Memorial Day with the lavender kicked up a notch! Interesting...I l ooked up Charles de Gaulle to see if Memorial Day is a descendent. It isn't...but Nicole Carol Miller is. I loved that rose...it died in the great garage die off this year.

I was wondering how this one would do own root vs grafted, and came across this response on CDG from the Old Rosarian, which I thought was hilarious

I have two own-root and two grafted on multiflora of Charles de Gaulle, and they all do extremely well.

CdG is arriving bare root for me this week. There have been some shipping delays so I hope he won't be too dehydrated on arrival. It's so nerve-racking to think of those poor roses, sitting in a box in some airport warehouse for days on end...

These pictures make me even more excited to grow him! I had read he does well in warmer zones and this thread seems to confirm that! I'm in zone 11 so hope that won't be pushing it. Hope to post some pics here in a few months!

@susan9santabarbara Thank you, I am glad to hear that. I normally prefer own roots but some plants, if they lack vigor are better grafted.

@111plisa su I've had the two own-root CdG for 18 years, so vigor on their own roots is definitely not an issue for him :-D

Thanks to this thread I've been lurking on, I added CdG to my winter list...it arrives from Rogue Valley this week! A small own-root band so it'll be a while before I get to fully enjoy it but I'm looking forward to it.
