When I was a kid, my bathtub has sliding doors. I used to pour warm water in the track to flush out hair and soap residue, that prevented the slime, I would scrub the track and door in the track with an old tooth brush every month or so. If I saw scum on the doors, it was past time for the tooth brush.

Because many do not want to clean this type of shower door with track, they “go trackless/frameless/etc”.

Easy solution: take glass doors off track and put up a tension shower curtain rod/curtain.

I had them for about 25 years....used a toothbrush to clean the tracks. When we moved in I thought the doors were opaque glass. Soon discoevred they were just covered with hard water and soap residue. Bought a water softener and every time I took a shower I would work a little with a plastic Scotch scrubber. Then I remodeled and put in a stall shower and a shorter tub. Whew!

First thing we did when moving into a house with doors on the tub was to remove them and replace with a rod and curtain.

But I couldn't do that because the rail had been fastened into the tub....would have left holes!

Leave the frame and rail in place and put up shower curtain inside behind the header. Later if you decide to sell the doors can be put up again. I know, I know, would not look as pleasing to the eye!

Every day, when I'm in the shower, I spray one wall or the glass door with a vinegar and water spritz, wipe with a long-handled scrubby, then after turning off the water squeegee the whole shower. Takes under a minute and I never get the buildup. After, I take a small towel and wipe the door track and chrome edges of the door.

Spell check changed my post. TILEX Shower Cleaner. Spray it on the doors and walls and go on with your day. You don’t rinse or wipe.

Thanks for the suggestions but it is the tub itself I am having trouble cleaning. Looks like there is probably no easy way to do it and I have to suck it up and deal with it.

Tracks are screwed into the tub and tile surround, therefore are not removable. Someone should invent some kind of discreet plug for the holes left behind.

Unfortunately this tub area was newly remodeled when we bought the house 5 years ago and we can't redo it any time soon. The rest of the house was original mid 70's builder grade with old carpet and popcorn throughout, so there have been a lot of more pressing projects.
