Yes ! This is such a wonderful clematis . I cut mine back when it finished it’d first show and got a really nice second round . I wonder how it would do in California.

When does it bloom double? And how to get them?

Double blooms appear on old wood early season from everything I have read. Here in the frozen north, I almost never see old wood survive above the snow line, so I never see double blooms. However, it is so far the only type 2 that has shown a second round of bloom in my short season. I am fine without doubles because I love the pattern of the singles and generally try to avoid doubles.

Where you are in SC, I would expect that you will see doubles when the plant has a bit of maturity as long as you don’t do hard winter or spring pruning Before I blooms.

I am really not sure why I don't have one of these! Very very pretty.

Here are some Piilu doubles.....I cut mine back hard every year. Usually twice.
