Bathroom Sink Materials

I am updating my bathroom with new countertops and my granite guy said to do an undermount style. The price difference is $50-$500! Vitreous China, porcelain, or ceramic are the three materials I keep seeing and the prices are all over the board. What makes the difference in cost in different sinks? How do I choose what to go with?

ITA Kohler. The Verticyl styles are nice, too, and budget friendly, though some don’t care for the flat bottom. I’ve had several and love them.

I think I was to go with a rectangular sink, any suggestions there?

There are several on overstock for around $60-$80. Not knowing anything about sinks, and seeing good reviews and what looks like the same materials, what makes these different?

Import quality control is poor. I wouldn’t buy problems. Kohler or American Standard produces top quality. And stands behind it.

I am with you! I am looking for info about vitreous china vs porcelain other than price. I have had cast iron in the past, but I like china sinks better. I have never had porcelain.

I would rather have an oval sink which drains better than the flat bottomed sinks. I imagine the rectangular corners may need a tiny bit more effort when cleaning. My rectangular kitchen sink requires more effort than my previous sinks were not rectangular. Maybe someone will answer that question.

The fabricator will charge you extra for the undermount sink ($75-100 where I live), because he will not just cut a sink hole. He will need to polish and shape the edges. My kitchen sink is undermount, and I am not sure I would do that in a bathroom. If my hands are wet, and I reach for the soap dispenser, then I leave standing water on the countertop. In a bathroom, I could put a drop in sink that has a slight rim on the top which will allow drips to drain back into the bowl. It will not drain back into the bowl if you use an undermount sink.

I looked at several sinks on Overstock. I noticed that several stated they were porcelain sinks, then later in the specs it stated vitreous china.

Watch for bowl depth. Overstock says from 5" - 11". Big difference. Also watch for interior dimensions and the placement of the drain. I want a single handle on my sink. Watch for single, 4" apart, and 8" apart.
