potted macrophylla 2020

7 inground macrophyllas in a sheltered spot..new leaves at the base only..I'll be removing the dead stems soon..the pot spent the winter in my shed in a garbage bag with leaves..the growth is weak having zero sun..but there's a flowerhead on most of the stems already..my Korean Spice viburnum just for fun..what a fabulous fragrance..

Where did you get the viburnum? I have a couple that do sort of okay but I am not happy with their bloomage so knowing I can get fragrance may make me look for yours.

I bought it years ago at Menards..a big box store..since then I've only seen them at nurseries..another one that I like is Summer Snowflake..a doublefile viburnum..not fragrant but I like it..it's easier to find..I have 8 of those!..

    Luis,

The Korean spice bushes are fragrant but the blooms are short lived (in the south at least).

Get the Chinese viburnum with HUGE blooms instead. This is mine a week ago in its 3rd spring.

Old Fashioned Snowball (V. opulus) is a show stopper when mature and in the right spot. Here is one at my mother's house in middle TN.

Contrast this with my Korean spice bush in 2017 - nice fragrance but short on blooms and they don't stay on the bush very long.

Here are some nice red berries on a viburnum at the Atlanta Botanical Garden in October. I don't know the species though.

Berries on my double file viburnum are flattened and appear in early July.

and in full bloom reminds me of dogwoods

hc..I think the doublefiles are elegant..I have some snowball viburnums but my blooms are disappointing..the story of my life Lol..the Korean Spice blooms are short lived but I'm still happy to have them..I wanted more shrubs when I moved in..I had tall trees with a high canopy and not much understory..Japanese maples and viburnums helped me out a lot..

I have Bloodgood..Emperor 1..Sango Kaku (coral bark)..a threadleaf..several had tags that said "Japanese maple"..I have 13..Sango Kaku in fall is peach then yellow..the threadleaf is the short one next to the house..pic#1 was 2 days ago..the trees are starting to leaf out but still a little bare..#2 unknown..the red is darkest of all my trees..#6 this one gives us privacy from a house in back to the left..it's tall now and it's funny to think I brought it here in my Honda CRV..I still have the Honda too!..I bought it new..100,000 miles last July..18 years old in February!..

my oldest maple..the builder planted it..I see it from my kitchen and dining room windows..you see it from the living room too when you look into the dining room..I took the ugly blind down that was here and never hung any curtains!..I like to see my tree..

thanks luis..the people directly behind us moved a month ago..I'm sad..they were here for 40 years (original owners)..she's told me so many times how she loved our plants..and how we take good care of the house and garden.."it never looked this good" she would tell me..Southern Living has gorgeous pictures..different maples together sounds beautiful..there are lots of wonderful special (and expensive) Japanese maples..when I moved in I needed screening..I would buy any shrub or tree that was affordable with good structure..I'm so glad that I was a planting maniac years ago..it transformed the place..
