Help with light fixture for over kitchen table

I’ve been trying to gradually update from the old world/traditional look I have to a cleaner more transitional aesthetic. My kitchen cabinets are cherry with ORB cabinet knobs and I have ORB door handles throughout the house. The door handles will stay ORB but I’d like to change the cabinet knobs to satin nickel. So suggestions to replace this light fixture? Style as well as finish? We’ll be removing the window treatment and painting the walls a light tan.

She did understand the mirror image question and she can sew them that way. Going to order a sample of the bourbon.

Here is one I have used with good results. Might be able to help?

I still like the other design though.

I sent for a sample of the faux leather bourbon. If she doesn’t come through I’ll check the seller you just posted. I like the other design better too. Thanks Flo.

Ordered the lumbar pillow. Faux leather sample has shipped. The seller for the “golden” fabric pillow has enough for only two more pillows. But I told her I need a sample first. So she said she has a similar fabric she can send me. I said ok. Fabric is 20 cents lol but the shipping is $10!! Principle of the thing, I’m not paying $10 to receive fabric that weighs nothing. I’m tempted to just do two faux leather stripe pillows in a 20” size and then the lumbar. That would look nice too. @flo mangan

To get the “whole look” I combined the tone on tone soft look pillow with the faux leather pillow so we have a combined look. We can find another tone on tone one else where.

Ok. I just don’t want spend $10 in shipping. My Scottish soul kind of deal again.

Messaged her to ask if she would just send me a small scrap of fabric in a regular envelope. She said it’s so expensive because it ships from Turkey. I might not even get the fabric til as late as the 28th.

Just pass. We can find something else. Shouldn’t be this hard.

I like those. I’m sending the seller a message to ask for a fabric sample. Thanks!

I think that pillow will be more warm in color IRL.

Which I’m assuming is a good thing? Haven’t heard from seller re fabric.

Yes. But with your light chairs either can work. I am trying to tie the light chairs in with sofa strong color leather and make everything look gorgeous!!

Oh ok I understand. Seller got back to me so I’m having a sample of the antelope fabric sent to me. And the lumbar pillow cover is on its way. Need an insert which isn’t the easiest thing because that pillow is an odd size.

  • PRO

Yea! Try two pillows in lumbar. I will see if I have referral for you.

You could stuff it with shredded foam if we get desperate!

Pillow is 12 x 30”. She suggested a 14 x 36” insert. I’m thinking no way can I stuff something that’s 36” into 30”. I did find one that’s 14 x 32” but it’s over $30 which I’m not thrilled with so I’m going to keep looking. Otherwise the shredded foam sounds like an idea. 😂

  • PRO

I prefer a 14x32 and that will have a covering so it will look and feel better. $30 is not bad for good insert. Let go of those purse strings. Lol

The faux leather samples arrived. I don’t remember asking her for the brown sample but she sent both. Bourbon definitely has the red tones.

  • PRO

    Yep - Bourbon for sure!

Ok cool! So I should order the pillows in the 18” size because the other pillows will be 20”? She can do the patterned part of the pillow on the inside of both pillows or the outside she said.

  • PRO

Yes, 18" size. Might work well with patterned on outside, but if the fabric is equal on each side you could just flip them? If the faux leather strip is off center, then we need to have her put the pattern on the inside toward the lumbar pillow. But I don't think it makes a lot of difference.

I’m not sure if the fabric is equal on each side. I’ll just have her put the pattern on the inside of each pillow. I don’t think I’d want to flip them because then the zippers would be on top of the pillows and depending how well they’re sewn they might show.

Good point. Talk it through with her.

Hi Flo! I received the lumbar pillow and I’m waiting for the insert I ordered. Also waiting for the pillow covers with the bourbon faux leather stripe to arrive. Today the fawn antelope sample for the other two pillow covers arrived. What do you think? I like it. Coffee table was supposed to be delivered on the 10th but it took an odd route from Ca to somewhere in Michigan then it randomly went to Chicago and now it’s in my state so maybe I’ll get it? Older nephew who works in an ER was not able to come so furniture didn’t get moved. Husband isn’t sure about moving it anyway because while it will work to move the piano and curio, the piano will block a lot of light from the front window in the new orientation. @flo mangan

  • PRO

That looks amazing. Only one pic? I understand about piano. I don’t see it blocking that much light. But obviously I am not there. I would try it. Men really hate change. Hey, tell DH I saved him a ton of tedious painting. So give me a crumb here. I would have it done professionally so no one gets hurt.

Yes I really love the lumbar. All the pillows are going to look great together! I like how they look with the mountain vibe of the photograph. My heart lies in the west so not sure why we live here. Oh, I guess it’s because our sweet girls live on this side of the country! I’ll take more pics when the coffee table shows up. I’ll have to wait to order the antelope pillows til the “tribal faux leather” ones come. The antelope pillow seller says she makes her 20” pillows 19” so a 20” insert can be used. I want to see what size the 18” tribal pillows end up once their inserts are put in. I wish faux antelope lady would just make them 20” so a 22” insert could be used. I don’t want the pillows to end up looking too close in size. (The tribal and the antelope) I’m sure this is confusing to explain but I understand what I’m saying! Ha! Got a kick out of the tedious painting comment and it’s true. Moving the piano and curio isn’t a definite no. We will see.

Lumbar pillow looks good with its insert. Pillows with the faux leather stripe have shipped. I had wood candlesticks from my mom on the old coffee table but they don’t look right on the new one so I moved them to the hearth. I hope they look ok there because there is nowhere else for them to go. It won’t look like too much with the fawn antelope pillows and the animal print green and creme pillows that are on the chairs? Too much animal print? Oops I see the green and creme pillows aren’t in the pic. @flo mangan

Wow! Lumbar pillow is awesome. Coffee table is great. Of course, I love Mackenzie Child’s but style doesn’t work in your living room. Kitchen table?

Last pillow is sweet. For new chair?

I have a beautiful bowl on my kitchen table. Hmm. What do you suggest for the coffee table? The last green and creme pillow can go on the new creme recliner we ordered as long as you don’t think it’s too much animal print since I’m going to be ordering the fawn antelope pillows for the sofa you found for me. Glad you talked me into the glass table.

Sounds great. Do you have a round black tray? We could put that on the coffee table and then see how we can style that.

I don’t have a round black tray but could probably find one online. The table is 36”, what size should the tray be? The MacKenzie Child’s candlesticks were a gift from my husband, I assume they shouldn’t go back on the mantel? I’m perplexed about the three wood candlesticks and the MC ones. I like them both and don’t know where to put them. Should I move the green and creme animal print pillows somewhere else? But then I don’t have pillows for the creme chair and the new “kismet linen” recliner.

This one comes 15.5 or 18”. Oh I measured 18” is def too big. My thinking with the MC candlesticks was that the black looks good with the black in the pillows.

  • PRO

15.5 should work. The check MC is “cottage” and your living/music space is casual/elegant. So hard to mix those two. What goes on tray should be quiet, solid colors. Perhaps small white vase with green leaf. Bbl

  • PRO

I found a semi-rustic vase and put a pic or two of a number 2 stem of olive branches in it. I added the smaller candlestick of the MC group. Then found a modern gold bird for last piece for the tray. So I brought in a bit of rustic to repeat textures in the lumbar pillow, I used the smaller MC candlestick for more black and white and the gold bird to repeat the gold of the base of the coffee table. You can replicate the look. Note 3 different heights. The other candlestick could be grouped on the island in the kitchen.

Flo I’m in out in left field here. Did you mean to put a photo of your ideas? @flo Mangan Sorry also are my green and creme animal print pillows ok with the fawn antelope pillows?

Usually you have to try the pillows to see what works well. I think the antelope will be beautiful on the sofa. The cream and green I will have to see. Tomorrow is another day. 🙂

Ok so I read this last night in bed on my phone with my tired blurry eyes and I thought why does Flo want me to put a brass gravy boat on my coffee table? Then figured out it’s a bird! I like these ideas and will use them. So I’m only using the taller vase right? The vase is 11.81” tall and the MC candlestick with its candle is 13” tall. Enough of a difference? I also found this tray on Etsy. I like the octagon shape a lot. And she will customize it whatever dimension you want. So I’d probably order the other items, place them together and see what kind of width for the tray I need. This comes in black too. @flo mangan Oh the vase will look taller with the branches! (Hope my cats don’t eat them!)

Love that tray! I used shorter candlestick. Is that one 13”?

  • PRO

The idea is different heights with whatever items you choose. 🙃

    last modified: 5 years ago

Yes the shorter MC candlestick is 13” including the candle. I’m going to order the little bird, he’s cute. For the heck of it should I look on Etsy for a vase? Handmade things appeal to me. It should be rustic and have some black? I’d swing it by you before I order. Or do you really like the one(s) on the Ashley furniture site?

Hmm looking on Etsy for an appropriate vase is like looking for a needle in a haystack. Maybe I should just order the set you found lol.
