I don't know about ruby-throated hummers because I live on the west coast, but the hummingbirds and warblers here do like and visit bottlebrush flowers for nectar. The trees are our neighbor's, but planted on the property line. It is a favorite tree for many other species of birds too. It must have just the right amount of openness to see predictors, cover to be protected from them and easy to perch on branches, because they are the favorite choice for incoming landings, startle flight, and just hanging out.

Callistemon, bottlebrush, are known to attract hummingbirds of all types.

They seem to prefer these dwarf bottlebrushes over petunias, confederate jasmines, and pansies. None of my other flowers have started blooming yet. Thanks for the comments.

For a while. They will soon pair up and mate and you won't see as much of them until the babies fledge in July. Then they will stay and perch again until migration. Put in some hummingbird flowers to keep them around through Summer and Autumn.

We have panzies, petunias, hibiscus, confederate jasmine, zinnias, red salvia, cannas, dwarf bottlebrush, and a few other things that bloom for short periods. Later in the summer we will have coral vine blooming.
