Should I be concerned?

I have a row of hostas planted between a fence and a lannon stone wall about 4 rocks tall with a width between the fence and wall varying from 16-22 inches wide. These hostas are in shade all day. I am concerned because I am not seeing any pips there, even though other areas of total shade in the garden are pipping up. These hostas are going on three years. There is also quite a bit of moss growing there, does that inhibit growth? Also, some of the hostas are large ones (Wide Brim) which is probably going to outgrow its spot here at some point. Help!

If the bed is on the north side of that fence it’s going to be colder and the hosta’s will come later. I can’t imagine that many hosta’s of different varieties all dying. I have about 15 hosta clumps that sat above ground all winter and they are all fine so I wouldnt be too concerned if I were you. Good luck!

There is wide brim, blazing saddles, prairie Sky, so sweet, Magic island, island breeze, Vulcan and wheee.a And a Fortuni Am. and American halo. Houzz is acting weird.

first thing i would do is shave down the soil ... and get it off the wood fence ..... so you dont rot the fence out ...

second.. crikey girl.. its still april ... your in WI .. and you are worried spring is slow???? duuude ... how about you get back to us in mid may.. after it snows a couple more times ...

focus!!!...???? ...WI .. dont you get some in june sometimes???

Unfortunately Ken, that is my neighbors fence and they knowingly placed it there. There are concrete footers that it sits on. I remember being aggravated at all the pebbles from the concrete, but technically the dirt is their property !! Haha!

I guess I am so anxious to get on top of the slug issue. It was bad in this area last year. But, you are right ........ it’s still freaking cold here.
