samnissim -Thanks for reaching out. My team made this out of old planks the homeowner had recovered/reclaimed from a barn that was being torn down and saved in their own barn for years. We wanted something that would match the farmhouse aesthetic and that would add to the kitchen to make it the heart of the home. It was equally important to our homeowners that we preserve the live edge and the natural character of the wood while we assembled it and installed the sink and we had to lean on my cabinet manufacturer to make the brackets in sizes that matched and supported the overhang (one more advantage of staying local!). Lastly, we still are not sure exactly what species of wood this is - my vote is hickory but the jury is still out.
