kitchen cabinets

  • I just did some refurbishing of my kitchen cabinets. I used Howards Restore a Finish which worked well on most of the cabinet surfaces that were water damaged. The doors are solid but a side panels are veneer. It didn't work at all on the veneer. The veneer side panels unfortunately are in some high use areas that are abused - next to the kitchen sink on either side boxing in a kitchen window and boxing in the stove. I am debating on the best way to restore these and I am looking for ideas. Thought about just using another veneer but know that will deteriorate quickly. Also thinking about solid wood overlay but I am having a hard time finding the 12in x 1/4in x 42in pieces I would need. I don't have a lot of fancy wood working tools to do this. Just have a hand held circular saw, some brad nail guns and hand tools. (No table saw or planer or other fancy equipment.) If anyone has a similar experience or recommendation would greatly appreciate it. I want something that will hold up well.
