Evan, your trees look gorgeous, as always!! How’s that Santa Teresa doing? Hope all is well :)

The flower I posted is from a lemon tree. I would love an AFL, but my husband forbade me from bringing home any more trees lol.

Evan amazing trees as always!! Thinking about planting a yuzu in ground this fall to see if i get your kind of harvests :)

Kelley what a beautiful blossom! all my citrus are a little slow to wake up this spring for whatever reason. I did however get my first fruitlet on my shiranui/sumo tree! Hope the little guy hangs on :) I’ll take a picture later on in the day when I’m outside.

this one is my kishu covered in buds I didn’t get fruit from it last year so hoping for some this year.

Steve, good looking fruit, looks like your Fukushu is doing very well.

Kelley, thanks we are staying safe and practicing diligent social distancing. My Santa Theresa lemon is gone, I pulled it out after it didn’t grow. I replaced it with an Australian Finger Lime and the flowers look like the first pic you posted, that’s why I asked if that’s what your photo was. my AFL is currently under attack by weeds and Bermuda grass, I need to give it some attention otherwise I’m afraid it may suffer the same fate as the Santa Theresa lemon.

jan, thank you, it’s good to see you on the forum. You should try the Yuzu, it would be a good experiment, if nothing else then you’d know if it’s a possibility in your climate and could be a success, you never know until you try. The Kishu is fantastic, you will enjoy that one for sure.

here is a pic of the afl at planting time back in December.

The variegated pink lemon was trimmed up this season too.

Wow, you all are doing such a great job and I hope you are all safe and not sick.

Kelley, it has been quite some time there was such a nice thread like this and thank you. Nice looking flower. i will show some of mine once I get them outside tomorrw for the first time. Poor things all cooped up all winter this far along when they should of been out a month ago. I get such short warm months now.

Evan, Steve always such beautiful trees and Evan, boy they grew!! I alwyas wanted to stroll through your yard and also experience the nice warm temps so early. I still have 30's at night rather unusual but what isn't anymore? Blue skies? I have not seen two in a row for over 5 months now. It's pathetic living here.

Jan, hugs to you and such a great job. Always love seeing your trees. Be safe My dad's nursing facility just found out they have the virus, I hope he is ok. We shall find out(00

    Hugs to all

Hey Mike, glad to hear from you, I will trade you with the weather, it’s been low 100’s for a week now only dropping to the upper 70’s at night. I hope your dad is ok being in the nursing home. Take care and stay healthy my friend.

Hi Mike!!! my prayers go out for your dad and his nursing Facility. It’s such an unexpected and scary time it’s crazy how fast this turned for the worst I’m still in disbelieve to tell you the truth. is your dad ok now?

bob wow!!! Your pruning and shaping of the trees are truly amazing bob! bob is there a time of the year when you prune your citrus?

Bob I have yet to visit Phoenix perennials for the dwarf honey crisp apple trees and I’m still waiting the fig cuttings from pino will keep everyone updated good to see everyone on here :)

evan I have two yuzu trees that I plan on planting in ground! I saw bob Duncan on Vancouver island have good luck with the in ground Meyer lemon against a south facing wall but mine are very finicky so I will attempt the yuzu instead i might need to protect it in the winter last winter it got pretty cold Even some of my roses died all the back.

Most of my citrus hasn’t really grown all that much This year not sure why. this one I got last year had a gold nugget tag on it but I’m pretty sure By the leaves it isn’t one? There are many winged petioles on a few of the leaves.

The one pushing out the most growth is my cara cara still awaiting to pick the almost ripe fruit it’s orange but giving it the old squeeze test it’s still very firm.

Also becoming one of my favourite trees is the kaffir lime use lots of it for asian dishes :) this tree is a trooper not a single leaf lost over winter.

Jan, you have to look at your tree structure to see what need to be done. you always need to balance stronger branches versus the lesser. Two things you can do, either bend the stronger one down and make sure the lesser is now taller than the arch of the stronger branch. Second, you can prune the stronger one, so that the lesser is now taller. It just take

a little practice. Early spring is the time for me, the more drastic time to prune. Light pruning can be done all during the growing season.

Evan, weather getting much better, eighties and seventies now. I am done with citrus going over to vegetables now, mainly tomatoes and peppers. I am not going overboard with veggies and garlic.

Bob, I’m doing well, I hope the same for you, my friend. I’m pressure washing the house today, so I can finally move my trees to the back of the house where they will spend their summer. Most of them look good, but I’m definitely paying for the neglect in 2019.

One that does not seem to be doing particularly well, is my sanguinelli that I purchased March 2019. While it has new growth on the top (and even a few blooms), the bottom half of the tree is yellowing with leaf loss. I’m hoping the leaves are just old, but it’s alarming to watch:

    Sanguinelli blood

Most of my grafts have failed this year, I still have two that are hanging on but haven’t leafed out yet. Scale, ants and mites are a constant battle. Blooming is almost finished, so hopefully I’ll be able to spray soon.

Otherwise, I have no complaints. We are using this quarantine time to catch up on much needed repairs and work around the house/yard.

I‘m getting ready to root prune several trees for the first time and it absolutely terrifies me lol. I should have done it back in Feb/Mar, but better late than never I guess lol.

Kelley, I wouldn’t worry about that tree, if the top half looks healthy, tree send most of the energy there. Tree knows when to discharge older none functional leaves.

On a different note, I think Laaz is not too happy the way things are going with his forum.I don’t blame him. Two citrus forums so close together, give him a break. I don’t like the tropical forum anyway, they sure don’t like a guy from Arkansas. For the remainder of my future Going with Houzz and the Growing fruit forum, got some good friends there too.

Btw Kelley, I hear so much of the virus in Georgia, keep thinking about you. If you keep driving that motorcycle fast enough, that virus won’t be able to catch you, better yet, stay home, take care.

I understand Steve, because most don’t want switch to v2. The old citrus forum ran by Laaz was excellent but the host went under. The tropical fruit forum/ citrus is run by Millet.

He is one of the best, all from the old Gardenweb. The greening disease pretty much done these forums in ,as you well know, shrink to a minimum.

Bob, thanks for the kind words! We actually took the bike up to the airport today to see the Blue Angels and Thunderbirds do their fly over:

    It was absolutely amazing!!!

If you like speed , you love jets or fast cars, like the one you have in your garage. If I kept the cars I owned and sell them in today’s market, I,ll be a millionaire and wouldn’t bother growing some measly citrus trees. Had fun being a blue collar fellow. Handle rough stuff very well.
