Fabric issue, new sofa

Two weeks ago I was thrilled to get a sofa delivered. As some of you know, we are in our Florida home and have started to decorate.

Shopping is extremely hard with a DH. I started with ”his” sofa. This is the one for the TV area.

He okayed this sofa and I then picked the fabric. I wanted a high performance material so no worries if the dog jumps on it etc.

The issues: we chose a softer seat, this one is springier.

my DH feels the arm is not as padded as the one in the store.

But.....the main issue is the discoloration that you see after sitting on the seat. It looks like a stain!

The fabric is soft and a velvety feel to it. I think it’s Crypton?

A technician will be coming out to see it. For those who know fabric, is this just a fluke? Or, do some fabrics do this and it’s best to steer clear?

I had that same problem with a blue velvet sofa that I purchased from CB2 a couple of years ago. Permanent butt mark after having it for one week I think. I sent them a photo and they let me return it. They admitted that it was a known problem with the fabric and that they were trying to find a replacement fabric to use. I would insist on returning it. It will only get worse and will drive you nuts.

Thanks Gail. I am so tired of two steps forward one step back. Plus with stores being closed, no way to order something else.

We have an American Leather sofa with Crypton upholstery. It is like corduroy with a nap that shows imprints when used. Unfortunately seems to nature of the beast with the Crypton.

Years ago I bought a Lazy Boy sofa and there wasn't enough arm padding. After awhile you could see the contours of the frame.

Your sofa looks a lot like my Ethan Allen Bennett sofa that I've had for close to fifteen years. It's still in great shape and very comfy. The seat is more firm than springy. I usually lie on it, not sit. I only use it for naps and evening TV. Does he like it when he lies down?

I think that's what's to be expected from the nap and the solid color of the fabric. It wouldn't bother me.

We have Ethan Allen up north for 20 years. Other than the fabric fading, it is still very comfortable. Same with the club chairs.

However, we treated our oldest to an Ethan Allen sofa and it is not as comfortable. I’m not sure we got the right cushions. But, they kept it.

Maggie, live and learn. We paid extra for this.

When I dealt with CB2 I asked them if I could keep the sofa until I could find a new one and have it delivered because I wasn't going to go sofa-less for the interim time. I would ask the same, even though the time could be considerably longer due to the current situation. Can't hurt to try.

I have a Crypton covered sectional with a tight weave that is very soft to the touch but no nap. so I think it's probably the nap and not the Crypton itself. It seems to be bulletproof for stains.

I dunno... to me the butt imprint kinda just says "Jim was here" (or whatever his name is), and is not a detracting factor... simply the nature of the fabric. It looks like a very attractive sofa, and that imprint wouldn't bother me at all.

eld, here is a link to a thread where I posted info and a pic of my fabric. The herringbone is small and very subtle, more so than what the pic shows. It's a bit lighter than your sofa, but I LOVE the fabric so much.

Ida, I am willing to live with it, although I am disappointed as it is not a cheap sofa.

It’s DH who is having the issues. Sigh.

Thanks for the link, Oly. I don’t think Sunbrella is offered for this sofa.
