..these are a set of green metal stakes, various sizes, I just poked them into the ground about 1 foot depth and firmed in... they don't cost much here.. very useful items for various purposes in the garden... they have little notches on them too.. this is a vigorous clematis, so I shall pinch out tips and probably let it drape downwards, whatever.... I put the tallest spike in the middle.... very makeshift..

Marlorena - those look like coated rebars. I can buy 10' ones here so height wise it is certainly enough. I will have to play around with how to arrange them, maybe bind to a circular frame with wire if I can find something, to see what would work best since rooguchi is not a great clinger.

Yes I think they are something like coated rebar, but they are quite thick and solid spikes - you cannot bend these, they snap off...might be coated steel... I have lots of them, they are useful for staking canes of big rose bushes that flop about... I could have got 10 foot too, but it wouldn't go in the car, so my largest is 8 foot.. good for growing runner beans up as well...

I wouldn't put a non clinger on them though...

Oh I even have some of those! Great idea. The clematis will cover them soon enough. Now if I can just figure out a way to get them that far into our concrete-like soil.

I am going to wrap something around the rebar cage frame

so the nonclinging rooguchi and zion that I have paired together will have support to climb. Will post a pic once it is done. 8’ would work too but I’ll see if I can Macgyver something to get the 10’ home. thanks!
