It is a pipevine.... you will get lots of pipevine swallow tail butterflies. It is their host plant..... they will feast on it in the caterpillar form.... but they don't do much damage. I just love the caterpillars.... they are HUGE! purple/black with red legs.... really fun to watch.

I look forward to the caterpillars arriving. I will make sure to keep an eye on its progress.

It is definitely Littoralis Elegans. The picture in Wikipedia and my picture look exactly the same down to the pattern in the leaves. Your butterfly pictures are fantastic. Last year we had a bumper crop of butterflies - hope they return this year. They love the giant penta.

Would you know if it's easy to propagate? I would like to plant one on the other side of my house.

Hope you do have a bumper butterfly year. Florida is by far the best place that I've ever lived for butterfly watching.

You should check out the butterfly forum here if you haven't already. Lots of great advice there.

As far as propagating the pipevine, if you don't have seeds I'd try to take some green wood cuttings (newer woody growth) about 4 inches long and remove all of the lower leaves, dip the bottom in rooting hormone and stick in a pot of potting soil. Water from the bottom, I've always had better luck with any cutting that way.
