Initially it looks like you could use some colors, some geometric patterns on curtains. Possibly more subtle furniture to offset the textures of the walls & the more classical detailing.

You say you want to “update the furniture“ but you want to keep the beds, nightstand and dresser, but you know the dark furniture is a bit much?? So, I recommend getting rid of the dark Queen Anne furniture. It does not fit in with the pool house. Get a simple upholstered or Chippendale fretwork headboard. The other bed could be painted white. Coral and white bedding would be pretty and complement the pink stucco n the main room.

I don't mind the wee bit of fabric draped at the back - better to repeat fabric at windows....

Hi. I am unclear if you have painted both rooms a lighter color. The rooms appear to be small and with the large beds, you need as much light as you can. Here is what I would do:

-paint both rooms a lighter color. (The lighter color you show in the one room looks much better with the pickled trim and will make the room feel lighter and more spacious)

-you might choose also to paint the furniture.

Think "mostly white and taupes with just touches of accent color"
