you dont tell us where you are .. but what i found with my light stands.. after a long dark winter.. was that once spring hit.. i wanted to be outside in my garden.. not messing around in the cold basement under the lights ...

in other words.. just as many failed indoors as if i had just direct sown them ... because i didnt want to mess with them ... or stated completely forgetting about those under the lights ...

decide where you want to play.. and act accordingly .. i recommend outdoors ..

ps: one other thought.. if you have space outside.. make a nursery bed.. where you can give new babes a little tlc ... instead of just winging them all over the yard ... maybe you wont lose as many ...

Where are you? In my area of central NH, frost hardy plants are fine for outdoor sowing, but tender ones aren’t.

Do you have the time and energy to care for and plant more plants over the course of the summer and fall? If not, save the seeds for planting next year, storing in a cool, dry spot.

I'm in southern NY (6b) so I could direct sow almost anything now. What I wondered was whether it was silly to use grow lights now instead of just doing the flats outside. They'd be subject to cooler nights but much stronger light. They'd also require much more watering. Ken, I appreciate your philosophy: move on.org! And so I probably shall.
