Maybe paint the fireplace surround and mantle so it stands out from the door?

it looks like the wall wraps around instead of ending, if it ends I like the 1st inspiration picture from Irene.

Maybe pull the surround off and go with just a smaller mantle? It seems so bulky for a small wall.

What is directly around the fireplace? til?

Thanks everyone! The wall does wrap around however we have a wardrobe in that alcove. There are tiles around but the house is listed so cannot remove them. Wall decor and mirror ideas are interesting. Would you put a mirror above and art to the right or vice versa?

Are the two framed pictures different sizes? Try exchanging bigger one (if it is) to the mantle and centre and place smaller one on top shelf so won’t be as close to the ceiling.
