Is there a nice view from that bench? For seating I am usually more interested in what I will have to look at than what is near by.

There seems to be this monster wasteland of barren, brown soil below the trees. It seems like the bench, even if prettified, is only going to be a drop in the bucket of making a difference to the surroundings. It looks like this area is the background for the view from inside of the house in the picture. Is that your house? Do you care that you're looking out on the "floor" of dry, brown earth? A groundcover could do wonders for transforming this area, as well as protecting it from erosion.

So the view is the street in the neighborhood , this is my house . I’m just asking if anyone things stones around the mulch or have any ideas for planters or types of plants that would look nice

how about we go with the easy solution .. move the bench ... crikey.. why is it facing the street ... dont live with the prior owners mistakes ..

i dont see a sheaf of green under those pines .. and i wonder why ... it is very hard to garden under a mature pine.. let alone a small forest of them ... it is usually bone dry ... so watering is an issue ... are you willing to drag a hose out there every day or 3???

a dry scape of rocks.. maybe???? .. but again.. why face the street ...

one of the hardest things i learned with my first house.. was to get rid of all the prior owners mistakes .. i figured it was the history of the house.. blah.. blah.. blah ... in some cases it took me 5 years before i finally figured out.. that mo had no idea what he/she was doing.. and i just have to get rid of all these problems .. and after that.. life was better ... no more stressing over some idiots mistakes ...

ps: when grass and weeds wont grow somewhere.. or struggle to.. that is a giant sign .. that not much else.. will thrive there ... so why fight it ...

The picture doesn't really make sense because the bench relates to nothing. It's just an object in the woods. Dolling it up with mulches or plants would make it look like someone pinned a brooch on this spot ... but we wouldn't have any idea why, as there is no reference to why the bench is there. And "why" would need to be shown, not described in words alone.
