Should we paint our baluster white?

We installed new wood floors and the floor guys cracked our baluster. Our floors are white oak, the stairs are red oak (a wool grey plaid stair runner is being installed), and the railing/ballasted a mid brown finish.

Since we have three different finishes going on, should we patch up the baluster and paint it white?

Last picture is an example of the white painted baluster.

I like the contrast of the natural wood. I would run the runner down the middle. It is easier to clean the sides and it looks good.

I like your choice of rug pattern.

HI -- Yes ..paint everything white or black for drama . This is more modern and fresher looking . Also think about having the carpet runner all the way over to the railing banister ( left side ) leaving the bare space to the other side . Makes it more interesting . All of this has been done before and it looks stunning ( Designer Tom Felisia feature ) . There are too many contrasts with all the woods . There is no harm in painting woods - if that is what people are worried about ...paint is a preservative .

Agree with leaving the current finish. How visible is the crack and can it be repaired so as not to be an issue?

It’s pretty visible in person. We are having someone come over next week to get an estimate on the cost to repair. There are quite a few nicks and scratches so we are weighing our options of sanding and applying a fresh stain. The house is 100 years old.
