It doesn't need or want fertilizer, including root booster, at this time. What Ken says is what you should do.

water deeply.. let near dry.. and shade form direct sun if you can ...

think of it this way.. you got a root mass for the future .. we dont care what it looks like this year ... we are getting it established for next year.. and the future ...

on shorter stuff.. i just put a lawnchair over things.. for the shade.. it doesnt have to be some complicated pergola.. or some such ...
