Window Box Suggested Locations?

Good morning! We are starting on our front landscaping and once the planting beds are completed I would love to add a few window boxes. Any suggestions on which windows would look best with them? Which windows would you do...

Thanks!

Lori

Once you get your foundation plantings in, you might not need or want to have window boxes. Make sure you choose plants of different height and leaf color.

The house seems to have enough going on with all the shutters and agree once landscaping is done, that should be enough. A couple of planters on the porch would look good.

    Lovely home btw.

Your home is pretty busy looking already, and window boxes will add to the clutter. They are not fun if you don't have a green thumb. They can be messy and take a lot of time to keep looking great. I would do foundation plantings of something that will stay pretty year round without your constant attention. Click this link to see several homes similar to yours and the landscaping they have done. If you want blooms and the exposure is right, dwarf hydrangeas and azaleas can add blooms and color in early spring and summer.

Yes, very lovely home. I love window boxes, but I agree with houssaon and Angel regarding not needing them. There's plenty there already with the shutters. Foundation plantings in front of the windows should be enough. Keep anything trimmed back to just below the windows.

Thanks to all for your advice. We had a landscape designer map out all of the yard plants so that part has already been done for us, but I do appreciate the suggestions.

Agree that the boldness of the façade with all those rectilinear windows makes anything like the small planters that are already present below the flag look extraneous.

You could do floor window boxes between the porch columns. That may be helpful to keep people from stepping of the edge although once you have plantings in front They should be high enough so no one would walk off. Also I know you probably chose the window moldings and the shutters but I would eliminate one or the other.

Something like this without the trellis and at the edge of the porch

It's a track home in a planned neighborhood, so there was no choice on the elevation details, you get what you get here at this price point. About the only thing I could choose was the siding color from a choice of 3 since my neighbors had already made their selections and those were off the table. Please do not think I am complaining, love my home and just trying to do what I can to set it apart. Covenants will not allow me to make changes such as removing the shutters.

OK then when the front landscaping is done post a picture in this same thread and people will help decide about window boxes. I have window boxes and they are a lot of work, Here in MA we have 4 seasons so now I have pansies, in June I will have begonias and lanteria, then the autumn arrives and mum, cabbages, etc and then winter greens
