Built in shelving seems to go with the style of your home. :)

This style will all change. We are in the process of buying this home, but we are more traditional than contemporary. I like to think rustic chic but not too country. Although I admit there will be a deer head on my living room wall. :)

Is the fact that it is not centered on the wall going to bother you as display shelving? If not, surround it with some lovely moulding, consider lighting inside since you are redrywalling anyway. Another thought regarding the fact that it is not centered... Since you are dry walling extend the width of it to center it. It will take some additional frame work, but I think worth the effort.
