Rainy Day Roses

Hello everyone! We got an unexpected rain shower early yesterday morning after a week of 80 and 90 degree weather! When I woke up and took a walk in the garden I noticed that all the roses were covered in sparkling dewdrops. I ran back in the house and grabbed my camera! Here are the pictures I took. I hope you enjoy!

Madame Hardy of course is perfect, even in the rain, but I adore the frilly petals of Ispahan. It really has that romantic "old rose" look.

What wonderful images! I love to see these roses all decked out in their "jewels" -- raindrops are so gorgeous on rose blooms. I can almost imagine the combined scent of the roses and the rain. Thanks for sharing.

Wow! Those are gorgeous Tina_Dallas! I love the look and color of David Austin roses. Do they stand up to heat well? I have been wanting to purchase one for awhile, probably an apricot-colored one, but am worried that the flowers would not last long in my climate.

Thank you for sharing the beautiful pictures!

I have only planted them this Spring.. got 9 potted. So far, the apricot (Carding Mill) has many blooms.. some are upright. I does changes from peach to bright apricot. I does not have a fragrant from what I can tell. Lady of Shallot is more orange and has a round full cupped look. She will be a tall bush and has many blooms. Some pink such as Olivia Austin has been more white perhaps from the heat and rain. David Austin are romantic cabbagey looking but they don't seem to last long in the rain as they seem to be more delicate. I have a few non DA such as 'Scentuous' which I love since fragrant and easy bloomer. Also, a climbing 'Lavender crush' is fragrant. But my fave have been 'Boscobel' and Carding Mill of the David Austin so far.

Thank you Tina_Dallas! I will check my local nursery to see if they have Carding Mill, Boscobel, Lavdender Crush, or Scentuous next spring. I love the cupped/cabbagey-looking roses!

Thank you so much Carol! Wow! I think Botzaris and La Ville de Bruxelles are two of the prettiest old garden roses! Just look at those perfectly quartered blooms! And the colors! Pure, sparkling white and delicate, clear pink! Absolutely stunning!

    Have a nice day everyone!

Damask: Sunbelt soul sister is in bloom at Lowe. It had lots off bloom and apricot. I still see Lavender crush at Calloways

Thank you Tina! I looked up Sunbelt Soul Sister and it is beautiful! It is just what I am looking for. I hope I can go to my local Lowes soon to see if they have any. With all the craziness going on right now, I haven't been able to go out in awhile. I feel like at the Lowes and Home Depot locations in my area they keep on bringing the same varieties like Ketchup and Mustard or Showbiz and never get anything new. They used to have a much better selection. I wish we had a Calloway's Nursery around here. I would love to find a Lavender Crush. It's gorgeous! I only have one purple rose, Intrigue, but while it is very beautiful I'm looking for a rose that is a deeper, bluer purple instead of a reddish-purple.

    Have a lovely evening,

Damask: perhaps a fellow gardener within a reasonable drive can get one for you. I got Earth Angel for someone (after hunting various Lowes)..I got Lavender crush from a guy on Facebook Market ( early spring before know anything about roses or houzz). Actually there are people on FB market that sell popular roses (Maurice chagall, Forever Yours, Don Juan $12-15 potted

Here is Soul sister (also Kordes collection)

Thank you for the suggestion Tina! I never knew people sold roses on Facebook Marketplace, I thought it was just houseplants. I'm gonna check out if they have Lavender Crush. My parents are taking us to Lowes tomorrow morning! I'm so excited! I sure hope they have a fresh shipment of roses.

    Have a nice evening!

We went to Lowes on Sunday, and the plant selection was terrible. It seemed like they hadn't gotten in a new shipment of anything in awhile. The roses were half-dead and the same old varieties, with 50% of them being "Arctic Blue." I've seen some pictures of it online and liked it, but I found that I didn't care for it in person. They did have a shelf full of clematis starts which I was really happy about. They had varieties like "Nelly Moser," "Blue Boy," and "Duke of something...I don't remember what : ), (it was purplish-red). I ended up choosing a "Prince Phillip" clematis and a star jasmine to climb up the side fence. The smell is heavenly! This weekend we may go to a different Lowes to see if they have anything. I can't wait!

    Have a nice evening,
