Surface for outdoor bar??

We are rebuilding a water-damaged and time-worn gazebo type building in our tiered yard. The structure is wooden and sits on a cement slab. If facing from our grass, we'll have a 40" bar with a top that sticks out 12". From there people will be able to sit and face a full wall that features a tv, etc. All walls (interior and exterior) will have wooden siding. It will all be white.

My question is what material to use on the bar top - granite? Just wood? tile? Our home is very traditional/colonial and we, similarly, enjoy classic style. We have young kids and it's in direct sunlight so it's going to have to be sturdy. The adjacent short wall will just be capped with wood since chairs (L - shaped couch) will face away from it. Thank you!!!
