I'd look for a glass pie dome so it's not as high as one for cakes and has less air space.

With a family of just three, we actually end up throwing pastries out sometimes! It's sacrilege, but it happens :-).

I have an ancient Wilton cake carrier, it's a plastic dome with locks on the sides. Not the most attractive, but it keeps cakes fresh like nobody's business, even after years of use. I have never put it in the dishwasher. I looked online, and it looks like Wilton still makes it, but I am not sure it is made as well now as my 20-year-old one. Mine has 3 locks, and the one now has 2. I don't have the cupcake insert - either mine didn't come with one, or it's long since lost.

If this one does not appeal, I still advise you to look for ones that have locks on them if your goal is to keep the cake fresh.

I have the three lock Wilton carrier that M Miller linked above. It holds anything. It's very big. Recently, I got an English cake safe for smaller cakes. It has a tight silicone seal. It's a lot cuter than the Wilton, and goes with my kitchen, but it says "CAKE" which makes it very casual. Because it's a pressure seal, it takes care taking the lid off without disturbing the cake.

Do check the proportions. Most of the really pretty cake safes are too short.

We have a couple of Tupperware Cake carriers. Flat base with a big cylindrical top that seals too it. Utilitarian, not decorative. The current Tupperware one is different, Rubbermaid makes one that looks a lot like ours.

I have Tupperware, Rubbermaid, a couple of the old/vintage aluminum ones and a nice glass one. The old aluminum and the glass one are the least effective at keeping things fresh. The Tupperware and Rubbermaid excel at keeping things fresh but they aren't pretty by any stretch of imagination. I guess it's a tradeoff...

I forgot to say, I was going to get a glass dome for a pedestal I have, but it cost as much as a set. I got a set by Libbey which is perfect! Not expensive, tall dome, nice curve to the pedestal to keep things together. Classic, clean appearance, beautiful in its simplicity. I doubt it's perfectly airtight, but it's close enough.

While probably not as super air tight as the plastic ones, I’m going to give a shout out to mine from Williams Sonoma.

Husband got it for me 15 years ago when we were first married and I thought it seemed a little dumb. You see, it’s both a lovely glass cake stand AND a punch bowl. I frequently use it for both! Every time I pull it out (often) I say to my husband that I don’t know if I’ve ever gotten a more useful gift from him. Because it is quite heavy glass, i can’t imagine it let’s In much air.

And a Pyrex pie carrier. The Nordicware carriers are excellent. but the way the tray is make can make slicing a bit tricky. The Pyrex pie carrier comes with a 9" pie plate. My other pie plates are Pyrex except one Anchor Hocking. The latter doesn't fit the carrier, nor does the 10" Pyrex, but it's very secure and keeps your pie intact.

I have the Rubbermaid one. I’m posting here to say I don’t think I’d recommend it. It’s perfectly good for taking cakes to parties and picnics so that the cake doesn’t get damaged on the way. Works very well for that. But it doesn’t do anything to keep the cake fresh and moist for more than a day.

NOT recommended:
