Is this a Jatropha?

This was abused/neglected but came back strong. It was just on its side, roots all exposed, not in a pot. We potted it but it's really top-heavy and gets knocked down with heavy breezes. It's really pretty but found out it's "highly toxic." I guess that's why the deer haven't munched on it.

Should I keep it potted/prune it back/any ideas--or just let it keep going, it seems to like where it is.

I'll post photos as a response. I'm in zone 9B.
