how to make an E. trigona cutting, where to cut

Hello,

I would like to make a new little plant, and these little ones off to the left look healthier by far than the rest of the plant. (Almost all of the rest of it looks like that light grey/brown/dead part ... )

Does it seem like a good idea to cut these, and if so, should I cut it as far down as possible? (I am not sure what that bottom part is, in fact ... could it be root or branch tissue somehow?)

Overall goal is to make a new plant, keep it healthy and small, and if the larger part lives (I've been paying it more attention lately but without much result), to find someone who wants a big one.

Meanwhile, while I wait to see if there is input, I will also figure out where my disposable gloves and safety glasses are.

Thanks in advance for all suggestions!
