It is a beetle similar to many of the Carpet Beetles (Dermestidae).

It is not a bedbug, nor a tick. However, keep an eye out for certain dried foods or natural fiber clothing, as the larvae will chew on those items.

i haven’t noticed them anywhere other than this carpet. Could that be an area of concern?

since we all play in this area of the basement, is there anything I should to to get rid of them or prevent them from entering the house so they don’t get into food or clothing? How concerned should I be that I found so many in a small radius in my house? I’m less concerned knowing these aren’t more scary insects. Thank you

Cotton, wool, silk, etc.

The carpeting in the above image looks synthetic.

If a trace of certain food items, dead skin particles, pet dander, was in the carpet, that could attract the beetles. A thorough vacuuming or cleaning and then see what happens.
