Getting pollinator from rootstock sucker on fruit tree

Hi,

I have a Pembina Plum, which apparently is basically a Japanese plum grafted onto a wild plum. The best pollinator for this tree is a wild plum. So I have suckers coming out of this tree a foot or two away from the tree. Is it safe to say these suckers are just wild plum suckers then? Wouldn't they work as a pollinator for the Pembina plum? Or am I missing something here?

Thanks for any input on this. :)
